Well guys, I finally heard back from the background investigator today. Basically to sum up our conversation, he said that I had a very clean background and that I will have a bright future as a police officer, just not with his department. He said that although I passed the minimum physical requirements, there were others in the application process that had scored much higher on their physical test and that the department would go with those who scored the highest. It was encouraging, however, that he told me that they usually just sent out letters letting people know that they did not make it, but he wanted to personally let me know that as long as I kept conditioning physically and got my physical test score up, he had no doubt I would make it onto a department sooner or later.

So, I guess not terrible news, just not the news I was hoping for. I'm a smaller build guy, 5'9", 148 pounds, and I started conditioning for this about 6 months ago. When I started out I could only do about 10 push ups and 20 sit ups. I'm now up to 33 push ups and 40 sit ups and my 1.5 is at 13 minutes. There are those out there that being muscular and fit comes easy, I wish it were so for me! I've always been a runt. That just means I have to work harder than the rest. On to the next department!!

 

If you don't mind me asking what were the physical requirements and what was the physical test like? I'm a smaller guy myself and I work out usually 3-4 times a week for the past year. I'm not the strongest guy in the gym, but I just try to get better every week. Have my bench press max up to 225lbs and I am 5'11 160lbs, Honestly I just started cardio not long ago and my mile is 8:15 the first week.. 1.5 in 13 minutes doesnt seem that bad, but what were the departments requirements?

I have an Oral Board Interview coming up this week for Mesa PD. I'm pretty nervous, as I am not very good at selling myself, and this is my 3rd oral board interview... But Im just glad that I got another shot! Anyway, good luck with your training and future LE endeavors!!

Passed the physcal and written, now on to the oral boards!

You have about 6 inches and about 10-15 pounds on the guy we just hired and is currently on phase two of his FTO program.  Keep on plugging away.  If you want it bad enough, you will get it.

Thanks SkoolCop! I appreciate the encouragement. This was by far the best physical test I've done as of yet (I get better every month). There were about 20 applicants and I came in 4th overall as far as the physical score goes so that is a vast improvement to my first physical about 10 months ago!

Very cool, Mesa is not to far from where I am. I hope you get in !
