Well, "I think" it went well. I went out and bought a suit, went by the barber for a cut and straight razor shave and shined my shoes. If nothing else, I was looking good! LOL. In all seriousness I know I did my best, whether thats what they are looking for right now or not, we will see. They asked me one CRAZY question, I am still going through the scenario in my head and still can't come to a conclusion! I'll let you guys know as soon as I know something, thanks!

If you were on foot patrol in a park and came upon a women lying on the ground balled up in the fetal position with a man standing over her pouring gasoline on her cursing at her and telling her she was going to die, what would you do . . .

My first response: Draw my weapon and give verbal command to put down the canister and back away from the woman.

The officers response: Ok, lets take that a step further and the man proceeds to curse at you and refuses to do anything.

My response: Talk with him as I walk towards him to dis arm him.

The officers response: Ok, one step further: He pulls out a lighter and lights and it and tells you if you get closer he will drop it.

My resonse: Well, my first response would be to shoot to get rid of the threat but I'm worried if I do that the lighter will drop setting the girl on fire! lolol

Like a lot of oral board questions, no right or wrong answers, but  designed to look at your thinking/reacting skills.  Whenever they modify or extend the senerio, it usually means your on the right track and so they change/update it to see how you will further do.

Background investigation is the easiest part (for you), you don't have to do anything and everything is in your past so there is no correcting it.  Good luck as you continue through the hiring process.

Have a fun time.

(If you could only embrace exactly what I meant, you would probably ace the oral.)

When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune and we'll all meet back at the local saloon.

And we'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing whiskey for my men beer for my horses.

Congrats, welcome to another step in the 'hurry up and wait' process.   Don't know if Scottsdale has dedicated BI's or do BI's between other duties, if the latter, it can take a while for your background to be complete.  If other things come up then the BI had to deal with them first.

Well, I'm not quite sure what's going on, I'm trying not to look into it to be honest but, the BI said that he would get back to me within 2 weeks, It's been a month now and I still haven't heard from him. I called his number and left him a message over a week ago and still haven't heard anything from that so I'm thinking I may be out? So the journey goes!

I imagine he is involved in several backgrounds at the same time. My best advice is kick back and do not become a pest. Relax and take a deep breath and wait for him to communicate. Trust me, he will get back with you.

Bump uncledennis1 and read my post (about 4 up) again.  BI's are almost always detectives who have other duties as well, if a major, relative infrequent crime comes up the BI will have to handle that first.  A 2 week background investigation  may end up taking 2 months to complete due to initially unforseen circumstances for the BI.

Well guys, I finally heard back from the background investigator today. Basically to sum up our conversation, he said that I had a very clean background and that I will have a bright future as a police officer, just not with his department. He said that although I passed the minimum physical requirements, there were others in the application process that had scored much higher on their physical test and that the department would go with those who scored the highest. It was encouraging, however, that he told me that they usually just sent out letters letting people know that they did not make it, but he wanted to personally let me know that as long as I kept conditioning physically and got my physical test score up, he had no doubt I would make it onto a department sooner or later.

So, I guess not terrible news, just not the news I was hoping for. I'm a smaller build guy, 5'9", 148 pounds, and I started conditioning for this about 6 months ago. When I started out I could only do about 10 push ups and 20 sit ups. I'm now up to 33 push ups and 40 sit ups and my 1.5 is at 13 minutes. There are those out there that being muscular and fit comes easy, I wish it were so for me! I've always been a runt. That just means I have to work harder than the rest. On to the next department!!

Well you know now what you need to make it happen. Do you have a degree?

Go back and obtain your college degree which will improve your qualifications when you test in the future.

College degree = money

Unfortunately it's not an option I can even consider as of right now. But, I am getting involved in a local VIPS (Volunteers In Police Service) doing volunteer patrol with a local police department, as well as ride-a-longs and other things to keep me busy during the mean time. I am hoping and praying that a continual increasing in my physical test score and a continued increasing in my knowledge will land me with the right department. Maybe in the future I will be able to consider finishing my degree but until then, it will have to suffice. Thanks for your input though, I really do appreciate your wisdom!
