This is a political, socio/economic, educational, parental supervision question and answer. Not one a police officer can have the answer to.

Midnight basketball is what I THING Flint SCHOULD do.Either that or demand from Obama ,a trillion dollar stimulus bill, paid by the taxpayers of course,to give to the gunman so they won't feel a need to shoot others.

C'mon, Dave. Really?  Take a spa day, dude--you need to relax more.

I only call Dave out because he's my friend. The ones that aren't I try to just shake my head and ignore--it doesn't always work out that way, but I try.

I stand corrected Matt.Nothing to be sorry about SecurityOfficer2131.I definately encourage you to do your utmost to become a leo, best occupation on earth and I hope it all works for you.Actually, what works for one city may not work for another.Frequently the crime rate depends upon numerous factors,i.e.,unemployment rates, tax base of a city, the willingness of the local pols to put forth the effort to grow businesses and how important it is to the pols/citizens to maintain a strong public safety program.Tis usually the citizens who must push for these things.I have found that most of the cities I lived in it is a juggling act as to what services are paid for and when.----Much good fortune in your future endeavors.,In essence what I am saying is that there usually is more than one answer to your question and it is not always clear or correct

SO2135, you will find a lot of tounge in cheek answers here especially if it's questions that have been asked over and over. UnkaDen has a whole list of standard responses that we all quote him on. Dave and Matt can be pretty funny too. Sgt.405 will give you a straight answer even if you don't like it. Marly can be the Queen of Sarcasm if you catch her on the right day. The list can go on and on. We can be pretty wary of new members, long story stick around and you will figure it out. Just keep a good attitude and if the answers or post seem out of left field, they probably are ! Wait till you meet some of the guys who are on hiatus right now !!!

Your cup being stuck on 62% reminds me a bit of my H.P. sometime when I'm trying to get on line.

Well I am hoping it boots.I enjoy your sarcasm  as it generally makes more sense than some of those attempting a stab at intelligence.

SO2131,

Good luck in your quest. When you learn how to deal with the mental cases here you will be able to handle  the locker room punishment.

I answered your question with brevity. Maybe too much, or little as the case dictates. As SSU459 said, it is up to  the citizens and politicians to answer thst questionand come up with answers. We can only see the aftermath of most crimes.  One has to look at root causes to find those answers. The decline of the two parent family structure, lack of discipline/supervision, depending on government for child rearing, growth of the "instant gratification-me first" mentality in this country, parent(s) relegating the public school system to defacto child raising, the entitlement mentality by politicians of both parties to gain votes. Ok I could go on for pages but  you get the idea. We have dumbed down America. We are no longer the leader in anything. If our children are not instilled with the  hard work ethic to succeed in school, get a  decent job, work their way up in the corporate world then all they have left is McDonalds, drug dealing, drug using, theft etc. Their choice, their path in life.

How's that Marly?

It is too early for me to jump down the rabbit hole of youth crime causation.  Law-abiding youngsters continue to disappear into the cyber-veldt or remain entranced by video-games.  In the retreat, among their peers, their dreamy voices are heard, their virtual warriorhood acknowledged.

On-ground, perverse knighthoods with murderous rites of passage continue to replace the rites of passage our teenagers desperately need from us.  Some jump headfirst into the bottomless pit. Others boil, unnoticed.  Enter the lone wolf whose self-imposed rite of passage is to unleash his bottled rage all over his school site.

Take heart,  a new movement is afoot.  The exodus from social networking to our public places where youths speak their poems. Conversation is beginning again.  Go sit in the audience and throw your two cents in.

Rites of passage.  What can YOU offer?  Night basketball.  Boxing rings.  And something more - something YOU create.  Is it a store-front musicians haven?  Is it a wallspace for entrepreneurial mural project?  Is it a video-makers workshop?  Go work on it.

Oops.  I jumped down the rabbit hole!
