12 years ago  I made a grave error in judgement and was expelled from law school for cheating. I am sorry for what I did and I have learned from my mistakes. I was wondering if this will prohibit me from becoming a corrections officer

Most likely, it will prohibit you from being in law enforcement.  What do you mean by 12 years? 12 years ago?  Sorry to say this, but your grammar is pretty terrible, as well as your punctuation.  We see these types of postings all the time.... *sighs*

My tongue in cheek response would be, if your morals weren't good enough to be an attorney, you probably aren't going to make it in law enforcement . However, the only way you'll be able to get a definitive answer will be to contact the agency you're interested in and ask.

We don't know the totality of the circumstances or the seriousness of the alleged incident. Obviously it was egregious enough to be expelled from school, which leads me to believe it was more than a simple "I got caught with cheat notes scribbled on my hand." On the flip side, 12 years has transpired and I'm assuming you've matured since then. Be upfront and honest about it and see where the chips fall.

Best of luck.

As one of our members mentioned in another thread, why do all the people that have committed a crime or such want to get into law enforcement? LOL Jeesh, I wonder why that is.... hmmmmmmmm

In Montana, corrections is easier to get into than being a police officer. Montana is also hurting for corrections officers. With the small tidbit of information you provided, I would not disqualify you for corrections. If you wanted to be a police officer, it may be a bit harder to get in. It will depend a lot on how you spent the last twelve years and what qualities you have to bring to the table.

I wouldn't come in the winter time, Suz. After a couple days, Georgia will be looking mighty fine!
