Posted 7 months ago Ok all i hope this is not looked down upon but im gonna do my intro here. I have been browsing these forums for at least 2 years and it is by far and away the only place id come for info so here it is. Im 24 years old and i have been actively applying for the past year. I tested about 3 weeks ago for a Department i really really want to get on and needless to say i was very happy when i found out i passed the exam. Now comes the really dreaded part. As you can imagine a first timer going in for the Oral board is gonna be very very stressful to say the least. Im really looking for any bit of advice anyone can give or words of encouragement. I know every place is different but any rundown of some very likely questions to be asked? Im gonna go in there confident but also inside very nervous i just have to keep that in check. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for me. Thanks so much. |

Posted 7 months ago Regardless of what questions they ask you, the answers they are looking for are yours: what you think, how you would react, how you feel, etc Be upfront, honest and try to relax. I'm sure they have interviewed nervous people before. As far as what questions? Sorry, I was interviewed almost 20 years ago. I can't remember what I did last week (lol). Congratulations and Best wishes!!

Posted 7 months ago I bump 36TR and also add to do some research on the city/town/county that you're interviewing with. For example, do they have a mission statement or future plans for growth? By doing a little extra research on them just might put you on top of others. As far as some questions they might ask are: Why do you feel you will be a good fit for this department? Why do you want to be a cop? What have you done to prepare yourself for a career in law enforcement? Blah blah blah... Like 36TR said, just be you! Good luck!!!

Posted 7 months ago Congratulations. Relax and take a deep breath. Yes, a suit should be your attire. First impression is so important. Don't over do the smell good. You have been given some good advice.Eye contact is very important and keep your hands off of your face and hair. Hands on lap. Keep us apprised. Best to you.

Posted 7 months ago Definately a suit. Like Uncledennis said, first impressions are important. Present yourself as a professional. If you're a male, have a nice haircut. If you're female, I'd recommend a "professional" hair appearance (like you would wear to a busness office). And by all means, (as suggested) don't over-do the aromatic addition. Strong perfumes or colognes are actually offensive to some.

Posted 7 months ago The oral board may seem to be stressful but it's no different than a job interview which is precisely what it is.Be confident without being cocky.Being nerveous is only normal. It wiil smooth itself out after they find that you're a normal human and you discover rhey are as well.Try not to belch or fart. A suit would be fine Leave the French cuffs , hanky tux and tails at home,as well as the tank top and cutoffs.Amen to all who advise you to be yourself.Law enforcement officials can smell a B.S. artist from miles away. Much good fortune to you MK604.Many of us have had set backs en route to our careers. If you don't make it through the first time,"Keep on Keeping On"
