Has anyone ever been turned down by so many agencies while at the same time being told you are the best candidate? Also, what were the reasons as to why you were dq'd...tattoos, reckless driving, collection?

I have been told I had the best interview, not that I was the best candidate. The guy who was the best candidate had a better work history and qualifications. I did what I could to improve in those areas and was hired the next go around.

You have been a member since 2010 and this is your first comment. I am calling BS. You were not the best candidate or you would have been appointed. No one in their right mind would make this statement. I can only imagine the civil liability in a statement such as this.

No, I haven't heard about this scenario.

I don't believe it exists outside of a fantasy novel or other fictional suggestion.

Nope. I was turned down several times because I wasn't right for the position for one reason or another. Sometimes it was because I didn't perform well, others because I was not the best candidate for that particular agency, at that particular time. I was told each time to continue applying, but never was it quietly whispered "Hey, you were the bestest, and most awesomest, but you got screwed."

What you're implying is that you got turned down, but was told "Off the record" you were the best candidate; not just for one agency, but multiple agencies. Is that correct? Not buying it. Sorry. Sounds to me that you have become disgruntled in the hiring process for whatever reason you were turned down. Mayhaps for some dumb decision you made earlier in life: Reckless op, an armfull or facefull of tattoos, illegal drug useage or any other number of DQ's. If you were the best possible candidate for more than one agency, you'd be employed by now.

Just sayin......

I agree.  My bs meter is going off the scale right now.  I have never heard of this happening and as one being involved in the hiring process before retiring, I can tell you that it did not happen while I was running the oral review board.

I understand this topic raises some suspicion. Well let me clear this up. The title of the post speaks for itself I was turned down by a police agency and when asked why my investigator told me verbatim "you are the best candidate i dont know why your background slowed". New policy on tattoos was implemented as to why that dq took place. Being dq'd by other agencies for reasons such as qualified candidate not prefered is understandable. Some people just have that edge and one must simply re-apply (second go-around). The actually post is a general discussion for ones own personal experiences. If dq ever happened and what the reason was. If too personal or embarrassed dont reply. If it never happened to you simply state. Any stories please post.

Well now. For one thing I am having difficulty deciphering this post. If this is indicative of your writing skills I can understand the outcomes you received. As for any departments tattoo policy, they are in place, in writing. Any department would not have wasted the time, effort and money on an applicant with them.  The "I don't know why the background slowed" comment is an eye opener. Read between the lines. Only you know what is in your background.

Yes i agree, i know whats in my background and why it slowed. Once again this is an open discussion. I believe if you read between the lines you would have understood what i was saying. No harm nor foul.

The first agency I applied for dropped me because their budget only allowed for three officers to be hired, but I was told I was in the "top five"? It doesn't matter, for what ever reason I was not to get the job with that agency and so I applied elsewhere and glad I did because I'm doing exactly what I wanted to do and using the skills I brought to the tabkle for my current agency.

Think of this way you didn't get that job because you are suppose to get the job with another agency? Good luck in your endeavors...

Again, this is so hard to decipher. The problem is you are evidently not giving all the facts pertaining to your background.  You cannot be the most qualified and be disqualified for no reason.

I will put it this way.  You may have been the best looking candidate on paper and you may have done the best oral interview.  Something that turned up in your background was a disqualifier, and agencies are not required to tell you what DQed you.  Dishonesty is frequently a disqualifer, however, though not always the disqualifing event.

I have tried out for a couple of depts where I live. I made it all the way to the interviews and was turned down. I actually made to the top 10 candidates. The reason why I was not selected at one dept. was that the others had a little more experience than I had. the other dept (which was a tribal dept) said I had an excellent interview and were impressed, but they hired a lot of applicants that were working in the jail.

I know where I need to improve on, but i will one day get back into LE..

My 2 cents: When you are applying for a law enforcement job you have to realize it's a competition, and integrity is everything.
