Six-year-old Solomon Schaller, St. Cloud, holds a guinea pig Oct. 30, at Prairie View Farm’s Halloween event. Owners of the farm have set out to provide children with one-on-one experiences with smaller animals to help them decide if they truly want to buy one. Owner Margo Irvin said the Halloween event was a perfect time for children to hold and have fun with the animals.

Awesome.  A dad turns his sons wheelchair in a halloween costume.  Love it.

 Bump!

Halloween traces its origins to an ancient pre Christian Celtic festival of the dead called Samhain.

Indeed, Max!  The ancient Gaelic festival with a theme common to many agrarian cultures!

"It was observed in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Kindred festivals were held at the same time of year in other Celtic lands; for example the Brythonic Calan Gaeaf (in Wales), Kalan Gwav (in Cornwall) and Kalan Goañv (in Brittany)"

Samhain "marked the end of the season for warfare and trade and was an ideal time for the gathering of tribes...According to Irish mythology, Samhain (like Beltane) was a time when the 'door' to the Otherworld opened enough for fairies and the dead to communicate with us."

"In the pre-Christian Gaelic world, cattle were the main unit of currency and the center of agricultural and pastoral life. In some parts, people doused their hearth fires on Samhain night. Each family then solemnly lit its hearth from the communal bonfire, thus bonding the families of the village together."

Plenty of muscle!  Leave 1/2 inch wall!

We'll last 3 days indoors, getting wrinkly and more scary.  Outdoors in the cool, five days.
