I had to share this. As most of you know, I'm retiring from the PD on December 1. I have no intention of not working, I'm just ready to move on. Having this in mind, I've been applying online to a steady flow of a variety of jobs. Most of the time I get no response from the employer. Sometimes I get the standard "We have decided to go in another direction."

Today I received the most awesome rejection letter from one of the potential employers:

Dear Nicholas Loizzi, Jr.,

We'd first like to say thank you for showoing interest in Director, Corporate Security - REA00000005. We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to apply online. Unfortunately, due to an unusually high volume of applicants for this position, we were not able to review your application before filling the position.

We sincerely hope our paths cross again and will keep your information in our system. We also encourage you to search for other job opportunities that might be of interest to you on our Career Center.

Thank you for you interest in us.

Best regards,

Oh, so they want you to cross paths with them again!  Yeah, go ahead and give em another opportunity to hire some one else before looking at the most qualified guy!  Form letters are amazing!!!!

Is it me or does the letter appear to be written by a child? I am not attempting to steal your thunder however, I experienced those that did not send me a form letter or phone call. Please keep a diary as I would be interested to know how many of these you will receive prior to landing a position. My biggest complaint is that people do not return phone calls or other forms of communication. Best of luck brutha.

I've gotten a FEW of those. One department in particular (I withhold the department name to protect the innocent) has sent me the same form letter 5 times and have only changed the date each time. I even had the human resources manager ( shortly after her retirement) tell me that she did not know why I had not been hired by the department.

Good luck with your search!

These forms of impersonal bureaucratic communication have one aspect.....They're good for a laugh.

lol, I don't think I've ever gotten the one that told me they just up and didn't even take a look.  Though I wish I never tossed all my rejection letters because I had some funny ones myself that made me scratch my head.  I think I had one from an e-mail that said I was an excellent candadite but was unable to hire me.  Just recently I had one that tell me I was rejected months after I was actually rejected pnly because I reminded them I existed.

Ya know Nick, there is a total lack of class and respect in some of these organizations. Even with the help of a good thesaurus, they would be hard pressed to come up with a sentence that contained a noun and a verb.

Now, after looking at this epic failure of a rejection letter, would you want to have worked for them anyway?

I have a few buddies that got hooked up with one of the biggest companies in the world. After a fashion, they all left. Why? The people in high places were huge jerks with tiny .....

Well, you get what I mean.

For your consideration: A retired cop will usually continue to have intact their command presence, ability to make decisions and a no nonsense approach to work. Lots of lay-folks feel very threatened with all this. Thus, we have to learn to dial back if we want to slip into the private sector. I am fortunate that I get to dabble in the Academy and be a law enforcement driving instructor. The peeps I deal with already know the package.

Umm, then how did they know they were hiring the best qualified applicant for the position if they did not review ALL applications? Gees, corporate dummies. Must have been Lts. and Capts. in previous lives.

I wonder if the boss' nephew has a last name that starts with an "A-"K"? That would explain why they *filled* the spot before getting to your application!

Why not frame the really good rejection letters and hang them in the bathroom.
