Hey,

New here, currently a Junior at a University. I am an intern at the local Sheriff's Office and I am doing an in-service in the Part Time 2 class and supervising in other operations of the office. I am currently trying to decide whether to go military or straight into police. I am interested in getting a TS clearance and doing contract work. Or go towards one of the "alphabet soup" careers. I would like to be able to get some more in-sight from individuals from their different CJ career paths and what all they have enjoyed the most. I have yet to talk to an actual FBI agent and have only been tried to be talk out of my interest...

Anyways, hello everyone and looking forward to learning more on PL.

Thanks,

RT

Welcome to PL from Ohio.  Only you can decide which path you want to take, there are a number of LEO's (myself included) that were in the military prior to or even during the LEO career.  Best of luck to you.

Welcome to Police Link, from Ohio!

Being Retired Military, I'm all for the Military thing prior to Law Enforcement. Not only does it teach you self discipline, but also teamwork. Besides, you get to travel the world for free :)

Welcome to PL. A distinguished military service career can get you to the Alphabet soups fast, but it's best to get some hands on basics experience first then go for the soup.

If your looking to get into the govt soup then you might consider military service in counter insurgency, intell or military law if your up for being a lawyer. It used to be that any military intelligence background, law or aviation training would get you looked at quick. Just axe a G-man. Good luck...
