Hi everyone! In my CRJ class, we have to interview a LEO about just about everything there is to know about law enforcement. I'm clueless as to where to start! Suggestions? Very much appreciated!

I would suggest contacting your local Police or Sheriff's department and see if you can schedule an interview with an Officer or Deputy. I would even suggest going on a ride along. Hope this helps.

I'm going to try that. I'm just clueless what to ask during the interview.

Did your instructor give you a guideline on what information is needed. Doing an interview about everything there is to know about Law Enforcement is really broad. law enforcement is a continual learning experience. I've been doing this for seventeen years and I don't think I've learned every thing there is about Law enforcement

That being said, I would say to ask the officer what a "typical" day is like for him. what is his experience and what type of training has he gone through. Maybe he can provide some information on different units of his agency and how they function and what responsibilities they have such as Homicide, Burglary, Narcotics.

Police agencies get this request often. All you have to do is pick up the phone and axe.

He didn't really go into detail about the questioning. He pretty much said he will be expecting a thorough interview which left me clueless! Thank you so much for all the advice!

Good morning Amanda.I would concur with Dennis and ocampo.Check with your local leo agency and ask about an interview.Having hopefully accomplished that I would also ask about his/her typical day, types of calls, what induced said person to become a leo,how to prepare, mentally, physically, emotionally for said job.Ask about the different positions and crews available, the shifts, command structure, benefits, seminars, training, etc. NEVER,never ask "how many people did you kill today",how many did you beat up,how many did you arrest.Yes we do constantly get asked those ignorant questions.---Best of fortunes to you.I'm confident you will be able to find many leos who will be willing to assist you.--Dave

Thanks so much Dave! Yes I assume you do get asked pointless questions like that, mine so far are a bit more challenging. By the time I'm done, I should have an A! Thanks so much guys

Just relax and think of questions you would like to have the answers too and ask them along with questions pertaining to the LEO job, that way they will flow effortlessly. BUMP to all that was said earlier these folks know what they are talking about and have been there and done that or are still doing it. Enjoy the ride along and the time spent with the LEO's from different agencies. Don't just ride with one, ride with each one so you can have something to compare to and report about...

I am curious.

Would you list the questions your class is asking you to research?

Thanks.

My interview was awesome! I asked about 45 questions total (basic law enforcement questions) some that I asked specifically are: Does sexism sill cause conflict in Law Enforcement? What are some of the sacrifices one has to make? Is it a very demanding/difficult career? Most gratifying thing you've been through? Is it difficult to be insulted by the people who call upon you for help etc etc. Thanks to everyone who helped!
