Today while talking to the cashier  at the lottery window at my local store a neighbor walked up behind me and tapped me on the back I knew he was behind me when he did it but you would think that he would know better then to tap me on the back even if I know he is there I almost had put him on the ground but luckly stoped before i did.

Almost did something like that at Walmart but since there were other people around I stopped myself.  I was at checkout in my Police Explorer uniform and someone (that I don't know) brushed something with pressure across my back.  Never found out what or who it was but no harm came from it so I let it go.  Even the cashier was a little concerned when I told her I didn;t know who that was.  If it wasn't for the customer next to me (and the fact we're not suppoesed to be in other places in uniform but I was in a hurry) I probably would have grabed the guy and asked what that was all about.

This one time I almost judo chopped a little kid's arm off when he tried to hand me a glass of lemonade as I walked past his stand on the sidewalk *ooh something shiny* but I stopped just short and only ended up looking silly as I *hey that's a weird dog* yelled "Hi-ya" and assumed my fighting stance I mean the little bugger was lucky I have such *Who's phone is ringing?* well honed reflexes and was able to control my killer instincts his parents should know better than to let him panhandle his sugary concoctions in an area where high strung tactical ninjas are known to frequent *SQUIRREL!!!!!!*

I'm sure that'll be no problem as long as they wrap it in bacon!

Elitegrey - Talking of unwanted 'friendly' tapping from behind in public places, consider alla dem women with good shapes.

Babes have a LOT more to be hypervigilant about.  So regarding quick reflexes and NOT putting jokers in the hospital...relax.

Did he say something like, "It's my money and I want it now" or "What's the HOLD-UP."

Here's my question that was implied by my first response:

When will people learn that being on edge and ready to "take someone down" isn't something to brag about? If you are that on edge and ready, then it is your issue, not theirs--just as UD stated. Kudos for showing restraint, but the almost-took-his-head-off-why-eff-with-me attitude is not a desirable trait and wont win you any macho points (the jist of MH557's response--I think :) ).

There are different categories of this phenomena. Those that  "accidently touch you in uniform, those that just don't have the common sense to realize its a BAD idea and those who do it on purpose as a sporting/control issue. In my years I have this happen a thousand times. The basic one being the idiot good citizen who comes up behind me and puts their hand on my back to gain my attention instead of  the tried and true method of merely saying "excuse me officer". They tend to need medical assistance.

Entirely different scenario, SGT405. I would hope people would have more sense than to get all touchy-feely with an armed police officer--but according to you, that's not always the case. I didn't get from the OP's post that he/she was in uniform.

At my age I have survived through MANY back taps, but never even considered or desired to put somebody on the ground for this.Guess I'm just odd.

Elite1grey. I am curious if you are a police officer? If so I would recommend you speaking to a professional (it is okay with the doctor/patient relationship) To me this is not normal behavior. Also keep in mind someone may hand you your head some day. There is a variety of medications on the market to assist you.

I agree with uncledennis.  You need to address that problem before it bites you on the rear.  React aggressively and put down the seventy year old lady who simply wanted to reach the pack of skittles for her grandchild and you will learn the meaning of a really bad day.

I know what you mean Elite, but like a lot of people said here, you might want to calm down. You never know if that person has serious mental issues or that if you try to "take them down" they'll end up taking you down to the ground. Next time that happens, yes there's probably going to be a next time, take a few deep breaths then confront the person.

I've been touched many times when in line, and I simply turned around and asked them not to then asked them what they wanted. Issue resolved.

Amanda ;)

If you're in line at the checkout, how could you not expect someone to walk up behind you? In fact isn't that what they should do, and you prolly walked up behind someone else to get line in the first place, I'd be upset if they just cut in front of me.
