Where would you take your family in the event this really happened?  What weapons would you take with? and would you go looking for relatives/ friends/ coworkers?  And finally what vehicles would you use to travel.

Good question. If it hit the fan I would raid my base's armory and supply grab as many weapons and ammo and gucci gear as I could with a team of my fellow MPs. We would then take a few tactical vehicles get our families, food, water and an ainflatable zodiac then proceed to drive down to the docks and 'liberate' a crab fishing boat. If we needed supplys we would just raid small costal towns.

After hearing about the Greenbriar Hotel in WV housing a former congressional bunker built during the cold war, that has always been my destination for the Zombie Apocolypse. It's a fortress and all I need to do is hijack a Wal-Mart truck for supplies ( you never think of TP as a neccasity until you don't have any) and that should hold me and any one I met between here and there for a while. My family knows this is my plan and we all have the same destination but it's pretty much every person for themselves and I am not above tripping my brother as bait to get the rest to safety. Sorry Bro. j/k....maybe. We'll see. But now that I've seen this idea about getting on a boat, makes me think of a plan B.

good luck with liberating a boat, most of the boat owners down here would use you for bait if you tried !!!! Personally, I'm hitting the swamp. Me and mine can live off the land. Also, the gators and natural predators can be used as a first line of defense. Friends and relatives all know where to meet up and we will make our own Haven.

If a gator eats a zombie, does the gator turn into a zombie gator?

I would say load up the truck and head for the Red River. Plenty of deer hogs and turkey, fresh water, good soil, and the terrain will slow down even the most determined zombie. As for weapons... everything I've got right down to bows arrows knives sticks stones etc. Weapon of choice, XM-15 and enough m855 ammo to stage a small coup. I'm not sure I would want to be caught on a fishing boat during hurricane season but it is always option C.

Funny how the only enumerated right that contains the phrase "shall not be infringed" suffers the heaviest regulation. I'm still trying to find where it says anything about hunting and targets.

Remeber, zombies can't swim, but they don't drown.  Sooner or later, they'll come wandering up out of the water.

G'day all . . . made a contigency plan some time ago and the daughter & son keep throwing up "what ifs" . . . not too far from home is a coastal island, French Island, that was once a prison farm back in 1916, closed in 1975 and is now a National Park.  It's in a large bay, semi-protected from the heavy seas.    Its relatively isolated and undeveloped, only one store, a small school and a population of about 100.  If they had already turned then I don't think it would be too much of an issue to put them back to rest.   Its 170 km² / 65.6 sq miles with several houses equipped with solar power.    There's rabbits, feral goats & feral pigs to hunt, fresh water & rain tanks.  Habitat ranges from coastal mangroves, swamps, heath, grasslands and blue gum forests.   I've got plenty of rounds at work, we've got over 200 operational cops based there so the initial supply wouldn't be to big a hassle.  There's several towns along the coast that would be good for re-suppling and a naval base (HMAS Cerberus) about 2-3 miles from the south west corner of the island.    It's a training base and includes the Medical Training School, Small Arms Training School, Gunnery School & range and the Engineering Faculty.  The weapon of choice at the base is the F88 Austeyr (Steyr), our Aussie assault rifle, single shot or full automatic, 30-round box magazine & only 3.6 kgs (8lb).

There's a barge that makes daily trips from the mainland so if it was still available it would come in handy in moving supplies/people/machinery.

Never heard of Zombies swimming or using a boat . . . and if they try to walk there under the water they have to battle the currents and not sure how much would be left of them after the fish & sharks do their thing.

If you wanted to bring your crab boat 10,000 miles west, happy to put you up.   =)

Sounds like a place we might would like to wind up ! If it happens, look for a group from Louisiana. we all can hunt, fish, shoot , grow crops and take care of ourselves ! So we would be an asset to your group. And if po0131 survives we'll bring him and his crew too !

So if a gator ate a zombie would they turn? I would have to break out the 7.62x51 ammo

Well you bring Tony C's if you want mate, it's your cuisine, but you can't get any pre-made creole spices here.  =(

Well there's wild deer in some of the national parks but it might be not be so safe. =/
