Posted 12 months ago Over twenty years ago I worked at the U Of R as a Security Officer. I met and made many friends with many officers from all the local PDs. One of the one I became closest to was an RPD Officer named Sonny Chung. He and I became good friends and remained in contact even when he transferred to Gates PD. He was in a MVA on September 15, 2002 and was critically injured and for a time we weren't sure he would make it. He recovered and while he was not able to return to work due to his ibnjuries he was still a walking miracle. It devastated me when that happened as he was like my little brother, but was grateful that he survived. I now work for Gates and saw Sonny regularly as he would come to the PD to visit. Today, while I was out of town preparing to attend the second funeral for a fallen LEO in as many days, I received the terrible news that Sonny was walking and was struck by a car and killed. Obviously, I returned home and I miss Sonny so much and his smiling face that was always there. Rest in Pece Sonny, I know you are up in heaven lokking down on all of us and watching out for us. |
