Posted about 1 year ago My name is Scott, I am from the suburbs of chicago. I enlisted in the army at 17 and enrolled at the local college at 16. Recieved a back injury and a couple surgeries in the army and ended up with a medical retirement.
This will bar me from 98% of departments, but policing is what I want to do, and I will do everything I can to get hired, even though the chances are slim. I will be attending University of Illinois in urbana in the spring, major in computer or aerospace engineering. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Scott, welcome to PL from the midwest. Depending on the remaining disability, a medical military retirement is not necessarily a bar to a LE career, I previously worked with a LEO who was medically retired from the marines. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Welcome to PL from Wyoming.....Good luck. I think it depends on how much disability you have rather than just because you are medically retired. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Scott, I am a medically retired Marine with a severe shoulder injury. I am currently working as a police officer, which is my dream job. It wasnt easy getting here, but I didnt give up, I was honest and upfront about my injury. And of course there were concerns about officer safety. My advice,do not give up on your dream. Be honest about your injury and keep up on your physical therapy. You may look at starting with a smaller department that has more ability to overlook your injury,as long as officer safety and mission accomplishment are not a factor. Good luck in achieving your dreams and goals. And welcome to PL |
