Posted about 1 year ago When I was 10 years old, yes that young, I stole from a store and was charged with petit theft. Would that be held against me? I honestly dont see why it would, but i just need to know. Since then I have a spotless record (including no traffic citations). |

LARCENY!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE ZERO CHANCE!!!!!!!!! MCdonalds IS LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD CRIMINALS!!!!!!!!!
Ok, all kidding aside. I don't see a problem here. My only question is why a store would even prosecute a 10 year old. ""Life is a storm.. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes"

| Posted about 1 year ago Petty theft as a 10 year-old will pose no problem for you as far as getting hired by an LE agency, just be sure to disclose it on your application. If a polygraph is part of the hiring process be sure to tell the examiner about it so that you can ease your mind about it for the test. "Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected."

| Posted about 1 year ago What in the world did you steal that caused then to charge a 10 year old, and assuming this was your last store theft, it shouldn't be a problem, just pay attention to the other posts as well. |

And they say you don't have a sense of humor. Hah! I too, am questioning the sanity of charging a ten year old with petty theft. You've been given good advice - best thing to do is heed it. |

| Posted about 1 year ago My charge as a 15 year old didn't affect my hiring. You should be ok, if this is your only concern. |

Generally speaking, the courts here do not like to have juveniles entered into the criminal justice system until the age of 10-11 and preferablly out of elementary school. That said, I have issued criminal citations to many 10 year olds for fighting at both the elementary and middle school levels. It doesn't happen very often (once in 11 years counting) but I have even taken one 8 year old to juvenile hall. As for why a grocery store would choose to have charges filed on a 10 year old for PETTY (not "petit") theft, it's up to the victim if he or she want(s) to be a victim. As for an issue or concern in reference to a crime that was committed at the age of 10: If since the original incident, there has not been a pattern of repeated offenses between then and now, you (the O/P) should be fine. Include it in ALL of your applications and be honest with your background investigator(s) when asked about it. |

He was probably taking butter brickle ice cream, thus the store's eagerness to prosecute. |
