Posted about 1 year ago I just need to vent for a second here. The guy who is now my chief has been with our department for about 4 years now and had come up through the ranks to the position in that time. Up to the time he got promotion, he had been very relaxed and laid back and we got along nicely most of the time. I have been with the department for a total of five years and six months with an additional six months with other agencies. This has put me into the position of senior officer and until recently, the sergeant. There had been times we disagreed, but that happens, We would discuss it real quick, come to an agreement and that was it. Since his promotion to chief at the end of March or the early part of April, he's changed. He has verbally disciplined me more than once in front of a rookie officer and has accused me of going over his head to install a new report management system when he knows that the system is run by the County and the County Sheriff's Office. He has disciplined one of our rookies for simply asking if he (the chief) understood the material being presented at a traing session being put on by TX Department of Transportation, when it had become clear to the rookie and other attendees that he did not understaned. I sense a discussion brewing between my chief and I. There is other behavior and attitudes that he inhereted from the previous chief which I don't approve of and believe that it needs to be said and should have been said from the begininng. I understand he is the chief, but sometimes senior officer trumps chief. Thanks for letting me vent. I'll step of my box now and go back to work! | Posted about 1 year ago I've stepped in it now! I've come to find out that the supervisor I was talking about has read the post. I'll see how deep I went soon! "Niether fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds." Buddha |

| Posted about 1 year ago Don't know the total ins and outs of this story but have to say that EVERYBODY in a supervisory capacity never disciplines an employee in front of another employee. This has never been an acceptable or apporopriate practice. He may wish to keep in mind he has superiors as well. |

Well, hopefully I won't have to take it that far. A couple days of him being upset and he usually comes to his senses. "Niether fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds." Buddha |

| Posted about 1 year ago Discipline actions should never be in front of employees. Sounds personal. http://www.iamsorryivotedforobama.com/ How's that HOPE and CHANGE working out for you? What would you do for a Klondike bar? |

| Posted about 1 year ago First and foremost, Senior Officer NEVER trumps the Chief! Secondly, If your Supervisor read this post, then why are you still commenting on it?

| Posted about 1 year ago I agree with coshane here. Senior officer never trumps the Chief. That being said, discipline should never be done in front of other officers. It does seem that this may be personal to some extent. |

I write all my posts online as if my chief is going to read them. If you always keep that in mind, this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ would not happen.
Speak to your chief personally. If that doesn't work or isn't possible and you need to vent, I would do it in a less public venue. Perhaps a few buddies who aren't involved in police work come over for a bbq...... "I have a strict gun control policy. If there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it." - Clint Eastwood |

| Posted about 1 year ago rypete, I understand the need to vent but you shold find a less public place to do this. As you found out the hard way our bosses can and will read what we post. Good luck and in the future if you have to vent, PM one of us and let the steam fly, that way no one else can read what you have to write. Bad stuff happens to good people, handle it and overcome.

BUMP THIS............. Seriously, stop commenting on this and have the thread locked and vaulted. In the future, handle yourdepartment business in-house. Venting is one thing but when you put it in a public forum like this one, you make it worse. You put more than your feet into it (there should be a very fowl odor about). |
