First off i use to want to be a cop a few years ago, my uncle was a corrections officer and a gun instructor for the NYPD and my uncle works for the FBI. I have plenty of respect for police officers and  greatly appreciate what they do for our country. But then i recently watched youtube videos of the colombia police departments swat team raiding two individuals house's. These raids took place because the police thought the suspect had large amounts of marijuana. These videos are also the most pathetic and un-neccessary acts of violence ive ever seen in my life. You throw concussion grenades outside and inside the house. Then as soon as you break in to their house you guys seek out the dogs then shoot them before you can find out whether they are aggressive or playful. Its a shame that all this un-neccessary violence happened because of a plant. Its funny that michael vick gets arressted and sent to prison for fighting dogs(animal cruelty), meanwhile we have police and swat teams breaking into houses and shooting peoples pets before thinking twice, such a funny world we live in. And one more thing, STOP ASSUALTING PROTESTERS, Just cause their standing up for their country and what is right doesnt mean they desrve to get maced, tased, beaten, and slammed to the ground for it. We are not a communist country, why do you insist on beating and arressting your own people for speaking their mind?!?!?

thanks

So, what you're saying is, this will most likely be your only post? Let's face it, you come into our website and belittle us?

If you're referring to Colombia (the country), they play by an entirely different set of rules from the US.

Though I'm not a SWAT Team member, here's what I do know: The "Flash-Bangs" are used to distract and stun the occupants of the house. This will give time for the team to make safe entry. SWAT Members don't typically shoot "Family Pets", and I know of raids that have taken place with dogs present and not shot. Dogs are shot when they are agressive and/or turned on the officers by the owner.

YouTube doesn't show you the entire investigation and why tactics were used. YouTube doesn't show you the protestors that throw bottles, rocks, bricks molotav cocktails at the officers before being subdued. Sometimes you have to meet violence with violence, just to make the arrest. Do we want to? No! Most officers on this site (and around the US) will tell you they would rather every call be a peaceful ending.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. We (LEO's) lay our lives on the line every day for total strangers. And a lot of those strangers would rather us not be around.

Since you're grouping us all together as violent thugs, are you saying both of your Uncles were like that, too?

mrsteve68 I am a non sworn traffic officer. I don't have first hand police experience. But I am very pro law enforcement!  And I know enough to tell you cops/swat teams don't go around acting the way you implied. If you you have so many family/friends in law enforcement why don't you know this already? If you have such an anti law enforcement view why do you want to be a cop and why are you on Police Link?

I think if this country ever became like the (few idiots ) on these college campuses I would move to Mexico and take my chances with the cartels.              I LOVE AMERICA !

come on 36TR you have to be kidding me of course i want yall around, you may not think so, but i do. Of course i seen the protests where they do throw stuff at you guys and you have the right to defend yourself in THOSE CASES. The occupy protests ive watched on tv and youtube, i saw nothing being thrown, people were standing there just being loud, and you guys start doing the 300 spartan charge, which is a good idea. but then i see officers striking people in their stomachs with nightsticks, they did not touch the officers. Of course i dont think all officers are like that, yall are just doing your job most of the time and for our sake please keep doing your job. Not ALL protestors are harmfull, most of them are peacefull and i see them getting arressted?!?!? Then i see the ones who are throwing things at you guys, that is when you guys have every right to slam those clowns on the ground. There are officers out there that do get over-aggressive people, you cant deny that. Police brutality happens, ive seen it personally, on tv, and youtube. As far as raiding houses go, is a gram of marijuana worth all that trouble and your officers safety?

of course not all swat teams and police go around shooting dogs and assualting protestors. Most cops are good people. But SOME cops get in over their head, and sometimes when that happens it gets caught on video brought up on the news.

Just imagine what goes through an Officer's mind with adrenaline running real high during tense situations. Sounds like you are the naive one and it's good you don't want to be an Officer.

I've learned not to judge what I see in the media.  Most media outlets have there own why of presenting the news.  Very few are accurate because they don't know the WHOLE story.  That is key, "the whole story".  I would say that 90% to 95% of all Law Enforcement are good people and it's deep in there soul to protect society.  It imperative that you keep an open mind as to what they do and how they do it.  There are many reasons Officer do what they do.  I'm not a cop but knowing what I do, and see, and deal with on a daily basis,  I support them 100%.  Remember they are sacrificing there lives ever day for us.

There is such a thing as passive resistance in our use of force continuum, and appropriate measures officers take. Batan strikes are not uncommon. In most cases, the protestors are not "beat". If they are there peacefully and lawfully, then an arrest will most likely not be made. The "Occupy Protestors" are (in most instances) violating local ordnances, hence an arrest should be made.

Don't question crowd control until you have gone to crowd control training.

You've seen Police Brutality in person, on TV and on YouTube. Even TV shows are edited for sensationalism (yes, even COPS). I'd only believe a very small percentage of what I see on YouTube. What you have seen personaly may or may not be "Police Brutality". Just because an officer strikes someone, does not make it "Brutality". Even if the suspect is struck multiple times, does not make it brutality. There may be a reason for it. An officer has to do what is reasonably required to effect the arrest. Yes, I know there are instances of brutality, and that one instance (i.e. Rodney King) gives all officers a bad name.

Do a ride along (if they'll have you) and see what really happens on the streets.

Troll refers to someone who creates a thread/post in an attempt to cause problems. He probably thinks that because you came onto a Law Enforcement Website and with your very first post, started negative comments about the law enforcement community. Yes, we will get defensive.
