Good evening,

I've been trying to get into law enforcement for a long time now. I've been close a few times, but never got a final offer.

I'm in the hiring process with a few agencies currently, and have the medical and psychological portion coming up next.

Can anyone tell me what these tests/screenings will consist of? I'm a bit confused because there is a physical exam portion, and a medical portion.

You wisdom and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Well Tony, I understood the Medical and Psychological testing part, but you have me a bit baffled on the Medical and Physical Exams. . . .I thought those where the same thing.  Look for any defects physically, do you have the mobility to perform the job, the lung capacity, the strength and so on to do the job.  Also, since you will be covered medically (usually) with insurance of some sort, they want to know what you have now so they don't have to pay for it later.

As for the Psychological part. . . .mine was a multiple guess test that was made up by some edumicated smart person that supposedly can tell if you will have troubles now. . . .or later, in your career with telling the truth. . . .with stealing. . . .how do you deal with stress and so on.  Don't sweat it. . . .unless you are trying to hide something.  If that is the case, they will find out and you will BE out. . . .of the running.

Good luck in your endeavors.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

Beowulf_7 covered the psychological part...... From what I know, the Medical and Physical Exams involve either an RNP or Doctor checking you out to make sure you're physically able to perform the job, whether or not you have any previous/current injuries or surgeries, currently taking meds, if you have any medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, high chloresterol, etc............ that could hinder your ability while on the job. They will have you do a drug test (pee in a cup), check your vision-make sure your visions are up-to-par and that you can see colors (believe it or not, some candidates have gotten this far in the process and failed because they are colorblind) and check your hearing. Hope this helps answer some questions. Good luck!

How's that HOPE and CHANGE working out for you?

What would you do for a Klondike bar?

Psych for me was worse than Backgrounds. For 1 I was not sure how sane I was and for 2 how smart is the person who generates these tests.

The tests are actually about 20 years old and have evolved over time obviously to be what they are today.

Medical is simple just cough you get the rest.
