| Posted about 1 year ago I can't thank you all enough. My heart is in this job and forum! I have made many friends here on PL. I had back surgery in Nov.2011. The surgeon had originally expreseed concern about returning to work. I was too old(ha) and with the screws and cadaver bones he felt it better to not stress myself physically. Well, lo and behold, I did so well that I was up and walking the hospital halls the second day. The occupational therapist came once and said there was no need for her to come back. I did not go to rehab, just home. I started my physical rehab. myself. My last visit to the surgeon was this week and after new x-rays he merely said, "you are in the top 1% of post-surgical success". Then he said something that astonished me. "I think you are able to go back to work". Uh oh, I had started my paperwork at the dept. A quick call to the Chief and I was told he thought I never left!!! Put me back on the rotation starting next month. I love this job, the people, what I get to experience every day. I want to put my retirement as long as possible. I think I would feel useless without it. PL has become a second family and I love you guys and gals. Thanks so much. My utmost respect and admiration, Al(SGT405)

Well, contrary to popular belief(haha) I am a very private person and do not put my personal issues in public. Sarge asked if he could do this after I talked with him and said ok. Just because of friends like you! ""Life is a storm.. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes"

The doc only saw and therefore only knows the exterior side of you to make the prognosis of "OLD." If he knew you like we know you, he would have known you were more stubborn to be concerned with old. Welcome back Al. Now if I can only figure out why I keep hearing the theme song to "Welcome Back Kotter" in my head. |

Ok,Ok I give. Yes I am stubborn. I should have. I APOLOGIZE!! I think you know that I dislike anyone making a fuss over me or trying to offer sympathy. I keep my private life private. But I should have PMd several people here. You are still tops though. ""Life is a storm.. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. | Posted about 1 year ago Going back on active duty as well! Outstanding! You are doing the right thing by at least trying and according to your Doc you should be able to do just that! I am VERY proud of you. Good Doc as well to patch you up that well. I have the dead people in me as well and the screws and plates. I tried to come back a bit too soon and the watchful eyes of the Chief caught me unable to work more than a couple hours and with lots of mistakes. Not good. . I feel that with the recovery you have had and the progress you have made that you should be the one of the very lucky ones who is able to come back to duty. Unlike others, we know just how much this great profession means to us and you have the chance to go back an continue on. Take it slow and do it right my Brother and congratulations on your return to duty! |
