Posted about 1 year ago Greetings all,
He let go with his favorite "war" stories and then he asked what was my favorite duty station? Mine was Germany and my favorite deployment was a peacekeeping mission to Bosnia. His first dirty station is Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii. Boy that's tough! Well, I didn't want this to become a "this one time at band camp" story but I thought it fun to remember when and feel that others out there may enjoy reading a few of the remember whens. Thanks for responding and thanks for yours or your loved one's service... |

| Posted about 1 year ago Can relate to this in so many ways: Infantry Granduation at Fort Benning, and being stationed in Germany! Germany was probably my favorite assignment. Right out of AIT, I was married (10-12-78). 10 days later, I found myself in the DMZ of Korea for the next 12 months. I arrived back in the States 5 days after our first anniversary. "Hi, I'm your newlywed husband. Remember me?" (lol) Try this on for size: Jungle Operations Training Center in Panama in June, 81; Northern Warfare Training Center in Ft Greely, Alaska in February, 82 (spent a night inside the Artic Circle; temps -65 degrees); followed up with Jungle Operations Training Center in Jul, 82. Jungles to the Artic back to the Jungles inside of 13 months. Wow. What an experience!! (Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!!!) |

| Posted about 1 year ago My favorite duty station was Panama. Also turned into a war story. Panama Invasion 1989. A co 5/87th infantry. Saw some freaky stuff man. Made it through without a scratch and got myself stabbed by a vendor at the FT Davis PX before I left Panama...got me three times..I'm guessing that explains my healthy respect for little guys with knives. Somewhere a true believer is training with one goal in mind...to kill you...will you be ready when you meet? | Posted about 1 year ago I loved Panama, but they stongly recommended we stay around Ft Sherman both times I was there. They were having some issues in Colon as far as a small faction really hating the US Military. Sgt405: I was in the 101st 79-81 and 86-88. :) |
