Incident Details:
Police Chief Michael P. Maloney was serving a drug-related search warrant with other officers shortly before 6:00pm when a subject opened fire and struck several of the officers. Chief Maloney was killed in the gunfire and other officers were wounded. The subject barricaded himself inside the house following the shooting. He and a female were found dead several hours later after a SWAT team forced entry into the home. Chief Maloney has served in law enforcement for 26 years, and served with the Greenalnd Police Department since 2000. He was eight days from retirement. Chief Maloney was a U.S. Army Veteran. Chief Maloney is survived by his wife, two grown children and a grandson.
