Yes that's right. What? You're shocked? HA! The indoctrination of children begins at a very young age. Thank God for private schools!

"A Virginia middle school teacher recently forced his students to support President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign by conducting opposition research in class against the Republican presidential candidates."

That's the very first line of the article. It makes for a great read and gives an interesting look at what teacher unions are all about.

It's sad when such blatant indoctrination doesn't surprise me anymore.

Good? By a teacher forcing his views on his students? Unions may have their place but now they are just an arm of the Democrat party.

So you have no problem with indoctrination of our youth? Its been done many times before with disastrous results. The most blatant example was the Hitler Youth. I know this isn't to that level, but if allowed to continue, how far can it go?

If next week's assignment is to do research to oppose the democratic nominee, I think it would be fair......For the union thing.......I came from a city that thrives on union. It was good to start with, but now it just supports laziness. People are not rewarded for hard work, they are rewarded for time. It ties the hands of company owners and bosses, because they cannot discipline crappy workers without going up against a whole union. Unions had their purpose, but now they are overly used and abused.

I am now NOT part of a union. I never will be. I have a competitive wage, good equipment(gun, vest, and all), and regular raises. I', doing fine without a union.

Bump, schultzy04, says "If next week's assignment is to do research to oppose the democratic nominee, I think it would be fair......"  That would be a part of the educational process.

@ others!   I seriously doubt any public school teacher would force their views upon any student.  As with many of the articles of this type part two was conveniently left out.  You do your cause and agenda a great disservice.

I was taught to be a free thinker and look up and investigate things I have never worked a union job and if you think unions dont do any good ask all the miners in the coal mines were they would be now without a union.

I don't work for a union, I can't. We live in NC, a right-to-work state. That being said I will stand by my opening statement and thank God once again for private schools. Interesting on some of the responses so far. Since we have decided to put our child into a school to which WE have to pay his tuition (as is our choice) why can we not receive the money we pay in for taxes to help fund our public schools back? Interesting paradox when you think of it. We do not partake in public schools, public school bussing, nor the public school lunches yet we are taxed and not reimbursed. Teachers (and their unions) not having a political agenda? HA! From the horse's mouth:

"If you think it’s far-fetched to suggest that a teachers union could play the role of political kingmaker, think again. The largest political campaign spender in America is not a megacorporation, such as Wal-Mart, Microsoft, or ExxonMobil. It isn’t an industry association, like the American Bankers Association or the National Association of Realtors. It’s not even a labor federation, like the AFL-CIO. If you combine the campaign spending of all those entities it does not match the amount spent by the National Education Association, the public-sector labor union that represents some 2.3 million K–12 public school teachers and nearly a million education support workers (bus drivers, custodians, food service employees), retirees, and college student members. NEA members alone make up more than half of union members working for local governments, by far the most unionized segment of the U.S. economy."

Oh and when checking that one out, check out which party they contribute to the most. Now I don't have a problem with that until they force CHILDREN into an agenda. Being a child of the 70's I can remember events of the 80's. Some of you will remember the movie "The Day After" which was relased in 1983 and the hysteria it caused not just nationwide but worldwide. The movie promoted an agenda against nuclear weapons and protests began around the world........mostly denouncing Ronald Reagan for wanting to place mid-range nuclear weapons in Eastern Europe as a deterrent to the USSR placing their nukes near our NATO partners. It also led to mass hysteria in our schools and I can still remember having to do "class projects" in which we were made to denounce the same. Keep in mind we went to elementary school right next door to a Marine Corps base. It has gotten progressively WORSE since of course as the NEA, SEIU, Teamster's, etc. push their agendas, whatever they may be.

You can't cure stupid.

I don't believe that any Teacher should force a certain political view on their students.  The Teacher should teach students how to research each Candidate, in both parties, to be able to make an informed decision on a Candidate, when they are able to vote.

Maybe the lesson was how to get on the evening news? What an idiot. I fail to see how digging up dirt on candidates qualifies as valuable civics experience. No--I don't think this is a good idea even if she gave them the option to research any candidate they wanted.
