 Hello you guys,

I am currently on my second phase and will be attending my Oral Interview for a ECT position.  If all goes well I will then be subjected to my background investigation.  I know it has probably been asked, but I would love feedback from a VET please!! How heavily does credit weigh in getting a dispatcher position?  My credit isnt too pretty due to stupid mistakes as a teenager and not knowing the harsh affect your credit can have but now it has come to bite me in the gluts lol and I feel sick just thinking about it.  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you =)

Is it OLD stuff or recent stuff? What is your outstanding amount due on your bills now? That's what will have more of an impact.

In all honesty, I think it's unfair to use someone's credit standing as a factor as to whether or not you hire them. People DO go thru hard times. It should be based on work ethic, ability to handle the job, etc.

At any rate, if it's old stuff that just ruined your score, but you don't have a ton of outstanding debt,  you should be okay.

Thanks D23PM for your response & yes it is OLD debt.  I just know that apart of the screening is a credit check and I instantly got scared but hopefully it won't deter me from getting this position.

A lot of departments are running credit checks on new hires now.  The reason they are doing this, is because it shows responsibility of the applicant, and because of past problems with creditors contacting the chief because of past due bills on an employee.  Credit companies are not allowed bhy law to contact employers, but they can garnish wages with a court order. It does attact the credability of the department as a whole.

If it is old debt, it might not be as bad as something in the last year.  YOu should make an attempt to take care of old debt problems, just to show good faith and responsibility.  Old debt does not go away, just becasue it has been written off by the company or bank.  It is still there, and owed to the business.  Some departments take this serious and some don't.

I am aware that bad credit doesnt just go away and my plans are to pay it off but if I can't get a job to do that, then I cant pay it off =) Thanks again for your advice
