Trooper Tony Radulescu was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on State Route 16 at Anderson Hill Road, in Gorst, shortly before 1:00 am.

He had radioed in his location and the pickup truck's license plate and description to dispatchers. When dispatchers were unable to contact him for several minutes a Kitsap County sheriff's deputy was sent to check on his status and discovered him laying wounded outside of his patrol car. He was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma where he succumbed to his wounds a short time later.

The vehicle that Trooper Radulescu had stopped was found abandoned on a country road approximately three hours later. A SWAT team deployed to the registered owner's home and as they approached it thesuspect committed suicide.

Trooper Radulescu was a military veteran; was fluent in five languages, and had served with the Washington State Patrol for 16 years.

He is the first Washington State Police Trooper to die in the line of duty since 1999. 

He is survived by a son who is an Army medic stationed in the area. He is alwo survived by many family members.

 I knew Tony back when he first started as a Trooper. I remember him as a loving father and brother. His genuine smile always lit up a room and lifted people's spirits. My family and I will miss him. 

 Rest in Peace Brother.....Praying for all involved in this time of loss. May the Lord comfort and be with you all in this time.

 OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire had directed that Washington state agencies lower flags to half staff Thursday in memory of Washington State Patrol Trooper Tony Radulescu (rad-ihl-EHS'-kyoo). He was killed last Thursday during a traffic stop near Gorst. A memorial service for Radulescu will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
