Am I an accessory??

I recently took a short trip to North Carolina from NJ.  Shortly before we arrived home we were in an accident after which one passenger got out of the vehicle and left the scene.  Before the trip, I knew he had been question by police the day before but after the incident learned that he was wanted.  When the police arrived, I didn't tell them about the other passenger because I'm afraid of retaliation from the other people in the car.  It is the next day and I want to call police to tell them about the event and where he is staying but I'm afraid that because I took him on the trip and didn't tell the police right away that I will be considered an accessory.  Should I report what happened anonymously or should I just not do anything?

In Montana concealling, or harboring, or in any other way assisting an offender in order to avoid arrest or prosecution is considered obstructing justice, and the penalty for it is dependant upon whether the person committed a felony or a misdemeanor. The safest bet would be to tell the police. If you call now, they...more than likely...will not charge you with anything. I would call and tell.

Oh yeah, most definitely make the call, NOW. The quicker you get this settled the better off you will be. If you keep putting it off they will eventually find his path leads directly to you and at that point helping the PD isn't going to help all that much. Call now and let them know why you were afraid to speak up at the time. If you wait until they come to you and have followed this guy to your front door. You might not like how disappointed they are after working that hard to find you when you could have dropped a dime on this guy.

Oh no no I'm not housing the kid, I just took them with us on the ride.  I know where they are staying because we talked in the car but I had just met them a few hours before we left.

A passenger left the scene of an accident that you were involved in before the police arrived. You know that the person has a warrant. You know where the person is. You haven't told the police. Doesn't that look like you are in some way concealling an offender? What is the warrant for? If it's a felony warrant, then the harboring, concealling, assisting could be a felony. Why leave it up to the courts for a guy that you just met? Do the right thing and call. You asked a panel of police officers a question, and they all gave you the same advice. It would be smart to take it.

The prevalence of the "I'm afraid to do the right thing because it might be uncomfortable for me" mentality is one of the reasons for the downward spiral of our society.

I question the type of people that you surround yourself with.  One is a wanted person and you are afraid of retaliation from the others if you were to say anything.  It also makes me wonder, what was the real intention or purpose of the trip in the first place.
