Hello I currently work for TSA and I am very interested in becoming a Canine Handler for TSA. I previously was a handler for the USAF but my career with the military was short lived because I decided to separate to have children. I always have wanted to get back to doing the job that I felt like " I was born to do. " I am willing to more anywhere in the US to acomplish this goal of becoming a canine handler again. Is there any way I could apply to be in a TSA Ready Pool for handler position that may open up anywhere. I do know I would have to retrain and also train as an inspector. I check almost daily to see new positions that open up and apply for them, but I do wish there was an easier way to let them know nation wide I am ready and willing to take on a dog handler assignment anywhere! If anyone has any advise for me please share. Thank you Patricia TSO Cheyenne WY

You might post this request in the K-9 handlers section of the forum, the Airport Police and in the federal forum due to Homeland Security options.  I know TSA's mission is changing a little bit and they will stepping up things they do as opposed to just working airports and such.  Check with ICE, you may qualify for a job and get to move into K-9 that way?  Check it out and best of luck.

If you already have done this then sorry to point out the obvious, but I didn't see any other posts from you in those forums...

I'd imagine that if you worked at TSA already, one of your supervisors could help you out. If they support you in your desire to be a canine handler, have them write you some references and recommendations. I think it would be easier to be promoted within your company to a canine handler than to get put in that position as a new employee somewhere else. You could also check with your human resources department to see if jobs like that are available.
