With daily articles about this group did this, this court ruled that, articles of children selling marijuana brownies in school, "Occupy" individuals burning the American Flag, and countless other articles of this type. As well as murders of children, by the very ones that brought them into the world. Can we, or an even more disturbing question "Should we" save this country from the downward spiral it seems to want to proceed down. Is it time the silent majority stood up and stop letting the liberal media decide what we should support, Should we stand up and take back our country from the current leadership, with no one party being the main singled out.

SO can it be saved?

Never loose faith in this great nation.  There may be bone heads running it at times or things may look bleak, but when this country unites we are the most formidable force in the world.  Keep America Strong and stay the coarse!  Excercise your rights and VOTE when it's a local, State or National Election...

Bump csiguy. I have faith in this Country. There are times I wonder, but then I see things that give me faith that we can rebuild and will rebuild. Also, as bad as we are when I look at the other Countries, I still believe we are the greatest Country there is. We have oru faults but that is because it is made up of humans. At least we have our rights and are able to post these thoughts. There are Countries where we would be jailed and executed for just asking such a question. Each Generation that passes thinks that the US is falling apart but we remain strong. We have faults but we are still the greatest country there is. God Bless America!

We went through some very tough times in the late 60's in which the very fabric of our nation was torn assunder and society was falling apart at the seams as "Hippies" and radicals sought to overthrow the government and install their own distorted view of reality in its place. We, as a nation, managed to survive that tumultuous time, and I believe that we survive the current mess too.  As a country we have historically survived hardship after hardship and administration after administration of lackluster politicians (on local, state and federal levels).

It is unfortunate that those same "Hippies" are now the ones in charge and doing their darndest to change this great nation. . . .just now it is from the inside.  The professors of the 60's found a lackey and with the help of big money man George Soros, got him elected into the highest office in the nation where he is now governing by the pen instead of the sword. . . .almost literally by presidential order instead of the customary running it through the legislature first.

My question to all still in law enforcement. . . .when the order comes down to take away all of the guns. . .OR. . .when the military is sent in to take the guns away. . .whom do you face?  Will you blindly follow the orders. . . . or challenge the order giver.  Remember, you may pay for that decision with your life!

It is this very discussion that shows the resilience of the American people and this country. Yeah, things are not looking great right now, but we've been through worse. The 60's? In the 1860s our country was torn apart. Before that we WERE attacked by our enemy and they burned down Washington D.C.! During the Great Depression many people thought we were through. Even leading up to WWII, there was a great division over whether we should get involved and only after Pearl Harbor did the people pull together. The Cold War had us being nuked on a regular basis.

All of these events led people to declare that the United States was through as a nation. It wasn't then, it isn't now. The bad times happen. Mistakes were made. Most of them were identified and we learned from them. It will change when We the People get together and make it happen.

Not realizing the dynamic repercussions of what has happened over the last 50 years and how badly our industrial capacity and it's infrastructure have been decimated will not help save this country.

Drastic steps need to be taken both by the government and private industry.  This is not happening.  What I refer to is not the latest economic crisis, but ongoing erosion of manufacturing in the USA.

Unfortunately, government has done just about everything it can to stifle private industry.  With all of the regulations, permits and general harrassment of the private business by the government, it's a wonder anyone wants to start up a new business.

the change people thought they were getting still can come but it isnt the one they think. This country is far from over with infact with some focus we can be everything we inherited from our parents.

defending each other's right doesnt mean cutting our own necks, we can hav eexpression without malice if we recognize that the right of expression is not only a right but a privledge.

We can grow economically when we remember that work is how we achieve what we want and that success cannot be equally distributed it mus tbe earned.

Thinking about all of the programs that this president has either tried to get congress to consider or has pushed through with his own pen. . . . .seems to me that he is working on a form of reparations.  He is just using the "poor" as the euphemism to hide his true intent.

America, as the founding fathers envisioned it, has been gone for decades.  The America we know today will be gone within the next 20 years or so.  I hope we can pick up the pieces and start over better.

I agree with this 110% , I think this country still has hope if the people of this nation would....when the attacks happened on our nation it was awful but the way we came together during that time of need was amazing...... however I strongly believe in the book of relevations and I think we are living in the beginning of that now so with that being said it's just a matter of time... so I'm on the fence..

I may be wrong (and some of you will say I am certainly wrong), but I believe much of the damnable behavior that we are reading about in the news has always been here. Here are some of the reasons that I think contribute to both the reality of the increase and the perception of a yet greater increase:

1) Population has increased significantly. In 1960, the estimated world population was 3 billion. Today it is almost 7 billion (more than twice). US population has not quite kept the same pace as the rest of the world, but it is significant nonetheless--1960: 179323175, today: 312977657. (reality AND perception)

2) Better detection, reporting, and solving of crimes. (Law Enforcement development) (perception)

3) The 24 hour, instant information, news cycle: not only do we have more people, we have more people generating news, and more means to disseminate that information from one end of the globe to the other instantly. (perception)

4) Crime/discontent increases during recessions. (reality)

Also, even as continued unemployment saps the optimism of myself and my fellow job hunters, I look at the news and see what's happening to the economies of Greece and Ireland and that reminds me that we are still quite a bit better off. I even believe those countries will pick up the pieces and survive, and they are A LOT worse off than we are. (perspective)

I understand this doesn't do anything to assuage the OP's concerns, but I just wanted to set it in what is in my opinion the proper context.

Yes it will. The majority of the people who are good and decent people used to be called the 'Silent Majority' and contrary to popular belief it was not comprised of just the middle class white male. It is comprised of ALL people who believe in decency, respect, and doing what is right for all. It has morphed into what is called the Tea Party but those who wish to destroy this Nation have tried to demonize that group as also upper middle-class and rich White people just like they did with the Silent Majority. I does consist of all people from all races and religions and nationality who are now Americans. We are realizing it takes getting involved and stopping what is the trend now. If Obama and the ultra left get in control the next election we may not have a nation we CAN save as our original rights and form of Government is being quickly taken away. We can and will get out nation back by going back to the tenets of our Constitution with limited rights for the Federal Government and more rights for the States and the MOST rights given to the people.

On the other hand, stories like this one give me pause:

FBI focused on ‘sovereign citizen’ extremists around the country to prevent violence

By Associated Press, Published: February 6

WASHINGTON — The FBI has been paying closer attention to ‘sovereign citizen’ extremists around the country out of concerns that they will react violently when they interact with government officials.

Sovereign citizens are people who reject their U.S. citizenship and don’t recognize government authority, like laws and taxes. In 2009, the FBI started paying closer attention to the movement, which previously had been grouped with the militia movements in the bureau’s domestic counterterrorism operations. Many people who claim to be followers of this movement are involved in white collar crimes like tax evasion schemes and making fraudulent documents, the FBI said.

“We started to notice a heightened potential for violence,” said Stuart McArthur, deputy assistant director of the FBI’s counterterrorism division.

Speaking to reporters at the FBI’s national headquarters, McArthur said that while sovereign citizen ideologies are protected by the constitution, there have been instances when extremist members have turned to violence. “The thing about generally sovereign citizen extremists is that because their ideology just intrinsically deals with the rejection, complete rejection, of the constitutional authority of the United States or any other government for that matter ... that when you have an encounter with law enforcement, we have seen that has a potential to go high and right very fast,” McArthur said.

McArthur used the 2010 example of when a man and his son shot and killed two police officers during a traffic stop in West Memphis, Ark. The man was a sovereign citizen who previously had only been on the FBI’s radar for white collar scams, he said.

Since the enhanced focus on the group starting in 2009, the FBI created a national strategy to address the issue, which includes briefing state and local law enforcement around the country on signs to look for and how to prevent violence.

Casey Carty, a supervisor in the bureau’s domestic terrorism section that leads the sovereign citizen extremist program, said that people in the sovereign citizen movement do not tend to gravitate to one specific part of the country and reside in nearly every state. Carty also said that age, gender and race are not consistent among the movement’s followers.

A Jeffersonian outlook in Hamiltonian times but one that is better as start for debate and adaptation than most. People need to recognize that is teh government is giving you something than they control that thing and if you comne to depend on it, they control you.

Exactly.  It started in the 60's with liability lawsuits and the EPA.  Both have run completely amuck.  Add to that we are being undercut by China and other global businesses, yet no one is raising or imposing tariffs to protect stateside manufacturing.

So it appears you are discussing one issue here.. Are you saying that the United States of America can not be saved or is not worth saving because of your statement?

America is getting to that point where we are past the point of saving. If this president gets re-elected then we have just pushed this country further into the hole of no return. If we can get someone in the White House that will stop printing money and making 40+% of Americans depend on the government to live, we might have a chance of correcting and getting out of this mess. But this president wants to take our troops and cut our defense in half. Each day this country goes down the drain, just reading the news papers tells us this. This shooting, that stabbing, this gang that gang, murders, arsonist burning our forrests. God has been taken out our schools, God has been removed from government all together almost, and the Ten Commandments have been taken out of our court houses. Parents can't discipline their kids without their kids calling the police for abuse these days. Parents want to be friends with their children instead of being a parent first! Teachers can't teach what they should be teaching because it might affend someone. Teachers can't spank in the schools cause parents will cry abuse and miss conduct. Kids these days are being seeing and reading and watching things on tv and games that they shouldn't be seeing till their in high school. We have programs on tv that should have never been thought up in the first place. The govt. is letting in illegals by the dozens each day. The jobs we used to have are now overseas. The courts like to put the shopplifters in jail for 5-10 years but a murder gets out of jail in less than 5 years.

Their are so many things wrong with this country and as each day goes by we let this country slip away. We need to get back to the basics of life when we first started this country.

The cynical dismissal of faith in our democracy's ability to overcome hardship to mere "happy thoughts" is a convenient negativism.  We invite our nation's blowhard detractors to go search for a superior system to proselytize in.
