Canine Policy and Procedure

Posted over 1 year ago Hello, I am in the process of finishing my proposal for a canine unit in the jail. I have the proposal almost completely finished except for jail specific policy and procedure (cell search, inmate search, visitation searches, cell extractions, etc). It will be a passive alert dog so we will not have to worry about barrier searches. Passive alert is not my choice, but its what the fiscal court will sign off on. I have everything else including the funding, flsa issues, liability issues and policy, selection of the dog and training etc completed. All I need is Jail specific policy and procedure information. I am an experienced handler (6yrs) but i have never worked a dog inside of a jail. I know next to nothing of what those p&p's should be. If there is anyone here who has any tips on where to get the info, or agencies to talk with I would appreciate it. If anyone is willing to send me a copy (a redacted copy is great too) of Jail specific p&p's I am not wanting to copy and paste them, just use them as a guide. Either way, any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thank you. -Mac |

| Posted over 1 year ago If you want to find out about K9 policy in a correctional facility, try contacting (direct) the Cook County (IL) Sheriffs Police Department. I know they still use K9s in the jails. Check out their web site: http://cookcountysheriff.org/doc/doc_DivisionsOfJail.html You will probably need to make an official request for the info.
