Posted over 1 year ago So, I'm at a Christmas party for my wife's Real Estate company when the topic of conversation tunrs to the funeral arrangements for a woman that several of the group worked with. It is announced that there would not be a service held as the woman was "peacefully cremated". The phrase "peacefully cremated" has me baffled. I ask what the alternative to a peaceful cremation was. No one seems to know. I suggest that there is nothing other than a "peaceful cremation". Then I add, "unless we're talking about 1940's Nazi Germany." Did I stick my foot in it again? | Posted over 1 year ago I agree with what you were thinking. Might not have been the best time to say something about it. This would have been ok if you were speaking with other officers, IMO, but when speaking with and/or around the average civillian, especially in a time of pain, it probably didn't go over real well. Loyalty above all else, except Integrity.

| Posted over 1 year ago Gonna go with luke on this one, Nick. Sounds like something I would say, then realize I'm not among uniformed-service colleagues and think "whups." But hey, if you're used to being around people (like us) with senses of humor sicker than a five year old with the flu, go right ahead. |

| Posted over 1 year ago Quite frankly my friend I L.M.A.O. when I read your post.Luke is probably right though, but it is definately what my wife calls Police Humor.Civilians have no concept whatsoever what Police Humor is all about.I once read it is a defense mechanism because we probably see more of real life in any given one month period of time than a civilian does in a lifetime. |

| Posted over 1 year ago Nope. Wouldn't put that one off onto the exclusive "just a cop's sense of humor".. That's funny anywhere folks have an appreciation of black humor. And that's a LOT of places! You are definitely the life of the party, BigNTS! The use of the word "peacefully" in this context was utterly absurd - like a bizarre attempt to soften the word "cremated" as if to ensure everyone the deceased was truly expired, totally dead and otherwise not alive the moment the furnace fired up. I can't think of anything funnier. But if "peacefully cremated" is coming out of a business associate's mouth and the gathering suddenly hits a somber and bereaved note...um...yeah...you goofed! You wife wins the debate! LOLOL!!!

You have to know that this is typical "Cop Humor", someone fed you a stright line and it jumped out. I knew I liked you, like me you are so politically correct it is amazing. My comment might have been "How can burning someone to ashes be peaceful?" I guess that would not be politically correct eather. |

, it was probably not OK in that situation. Salvageable, however, because the woman was not family of the group.
