Posted over 1 year ago Have a few questions about trying to get my foot in the door with the Ohio State Troopers. I'm currently serving active duty Army in Afganistan as a Fire Support Team Chief and I'm set on moving on away from the Army. Don't get me wrong I love the military and and the job even more, but three deployments and eleven years of service, I'm tired of pounding ground in foreign neighborhoods and would like to start get back to my own. I"m a little over a year away from my ETS date and want to get a jump on all the prerequisits so I have no break in a job or a pay check for that matter. When I was looking over the State Trooper website its says that it could be a 4-6 month application process. Dose anyone know if or how much of that process that I would have to be present for seeing how I'll still be stationed away from Ohio? Once application process is complete dose anyone have any idea on how duty stations are choosen and how much they will actually let you have your first pick? My largest concern is my family during this process, I'm married and have a young daughter and want to have as much information to help them brace for alot of possible moving agine.

Posted over 1 year ago Thanks for your service. Many agencies can do some of the processing in 2 or 3 days if you have the time to travel. Now is an excellent time to start the application process. I recommend you communicate with agencies which have your interest. I wish you well.

Posted over 1 year ago You will need to pose these questions to the agencies which interest you. State patrol agencies are top notch. I have a friend (LT) with the Missouri State Patrol who informed me past drug use is the kiss of death with applicants. Be sure to have it together as not to waste time. Good luck.

| Posted over 1 year ago Usually, for applicants who are currently deployed serving in the armed services, agencies will work with the applicant on the hiring process, so long as the applicant is desirable to the agency. Contact the agency and explain your situation and see what they say. Just curious - why do you want to go from fire to law enforcement? Good luck! Lara

Posted over 1 year ago Fire support dosn't have anything to do with actual fire fighting. We're called FIST, fire support team, we are forward observers for artillery, mortars, close air support, close combat attack aircraft and naval gun fire. Thanks for the input, I'm actually taking leave soon and plan on going over to the departments that I'm interested in.

Posted over 1 year ago I applied to the Ohio State Patrol when I first came off Active Duty (1988). I didn't need to be present for the actual application, however, the first thing they do in the application process is a Pyschological Profile Test. It took me a few hours to complete the test, and I had to be present (naturally, I didn't meet their requirements - 4 years later I was hired by the local PD). I'm not sure how they would handle the application process for a Service Member currently deployed. I'll send ya a couple of links in a PM. It may help you out. Best of luck to you!! Thank You for your Service!!!
