I have been on PoliceLink now for 2 1/2 years.  I have seen some really great topics in the Forums... But,  what happened to the "Intellectual" topics we used to have?  Don't get me wrong.. I love the "fun" topics on here, but the Forums seem to be missing substance, or something....

Anyone else notice this?  Or is it just me!?!

Catwoman911. You are so correct. The forums/discussions have gone 200 miles south. New members have seem to take over. Hang in there and I will hold your hand.

No, Catwoman.  It's not just you.  Forum Topics have hit an all time low.  Where have all the ideas gone??

Meanwhile, I've sent the Brain Monkey out on patrol for a thought-provoking topic.

Yes things have gone south on PL but I think it is very slowly heading back up in the right direction.    We all just need to hang in there.   I am sure Marly's Brain Monkey will come back with something.

Catwoman911 is not only pretty, she's smart ( Does that mean she's pretty smart ?? Could this be a new discussion topic ?? ).  Anyway, she's on the right track, and I'm waiting on the Brain Monkey, as well.

Well allow me to eschew obfuscation and proceed with a wry, drool and succinct wit.

Doc, no drooling on CW911... she doesn't take kindly to drool on her paws!

I have noticed as I scan the forum topics, I remain uninterested in a majority of the selection available to me.  It was not too long ago that I could browse for mere seconds before landing upon a topic of great interest and at least a fair amount of intellect.  Now, the search for such topics takes slightly longer.  However, I know I can always go to "From the Desk of the Sarge" for inspiring conversation!

Intelligent intercourse is contingent on engaging with individuals who are willing to speak.

These days, people are taxed with other pressures that distracts them from social media.

This is no need for concerned though.

Those same people are out there but are working hard to keep their homes, bills and families intact.

I for one am delighted to be  independently wealthy and totally free of woes to distract me from intelligent discourse in social media.

I think "intellect" got on a bus with "common sense" and both decided not to return.

Perhaps we have run the intellectual discourse course? I'm sure we will find something to resurrect the meaningful back and forth that occurred in the past. For now, and until something worthwhile comes up, let's just keep enjoying the non-intellectual banter.

I think the fact we've lost so many plank owners of this site has contributed to the stale, Facebook-esque discussions and topics of late. I miss the productive conversations (sometimes heated!) we used to have with Corylovesandrea, Treehugger719, T_9, PSDTeamLeader, BSL, bmorgan, etc.

It seems like those of us who are still here have exhausted all the "new" ideas, yet we jump all over the newbies who post a question because they haven't "earned" the right to have an opinion yet. I agree we have had more than our fair share of trolls/BB/ etc. and we need to stick with a rookie vetting process of some kind, but we could also stand to be a bit more welcoming and understanding. (And I'm as guilty as the next about this.) The recent thread on the "Marijuana Controlled Burn" is one example.

If we keep doing what we've always done, nothing is going to change. Einstein said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results."

I am going to be making a conscious effort to be more tolerant of new members who show potential, and actually look forward to answering some of the "same 'ol-same 'ol" questions we used to get!

Just my .02 worth...

HUGE Bump!!!

I too miss all those you mentioned and many others.  Part of what I enjoy on PoliceLink is learning on the Site, as I am a civilian member.  And a good debate can be very thought provoking... I miss that too.

And yes, I have been guilty of jumping down people's throats too, when I shouldn't have... one person in particular comes to mind.

Thank you, MH557.  Good points you made.

Agree BigNTS, 100%.

Dunno about the somewhat clubby assignation of title "Plank Owner".  Anybody can hit and run a simple controversial topic, then stand back and watch the fur fly.

There are a few members here who work quite doggedly to keep PL from going out with a whimper.  That means a level of commitment to activity.  So damned what if the content is humor?  Each to his own.

If members feel like they are not getting enough intellectual bang for their buck, that's why we have a Start a Topic option.  So come on, give it a shot.

We'll hop all over you.  It'll make you feel like a newbie again.
