This is a good example of Breed Specifice Legislation (BSL), and it's alive an well.  As a shelter volunteer/foster mom, I've seen some of the  most beautiful docile  dogs got to the Eutho Tech with Wagging Tales not knowing what lies ahead.  Shelters throughout  NJ  has  since lifted this similiar BS rule, however I know a shelter built  for 200 Animals that holds close to  280.

People are suffering economical  hardships, hence dogs wind up in shelters.  Shelters workers and Humane Cops make little money, but I am happy to say I know many who do it for the love of the animals.  Speaking of the love for the animals, I HEAVILY PROMOTE spaying and Neutering as there are over a billion animals going into shelters across the USA yearly.  I've been involved with fostering along time and I cringe when some asks me if they can breed My ( Neutered) dog with theirs.  I often explain to them that, well one he's neutered, and two only 2 out of a litter of 9-11 puppies will make it to a decent home and not back to a shelter awaiting Euthanasia.  Anybody  that works  or volunteers in a shelter can tell you most dogs are not puppies, they are over a year, owners developed mysterious "allergies" or "evictions" and even claim that they were strays. MOST owners haven't a clue what to do with a High energy breed of Dog(like the ones you mentioned) and give up after they anxiety chew or become overactive because they lack proper exercise, bark all day from being overcrated or Chained up for hours.

There are many High kill shelters, esp the ACS in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx where the  dogs have a good week before they are put down.  Overcrowded shelters causes dogs to fight, and they are immediatly put down after the incident.  With that said, I think it's  a heartbreaking thing that we have shelters that still will place a whole bunch of dogs in a gas chamber b/c they can't afford Euthania, But the Problem all starts with the Human that IMPULSE BUY then become too lazy to clean, train and socialize and Spay or Neuter their dog. Some "clinics" spay cats for as low as $10, and Dogs for as low as $30,

Most People Don't realize Dropping their dog or cat at a shelter leaves holds no guarentee they will be aopted, in actuallity an owner return bumps a K9 right on top of the EUTHO MEMO.

Good Luck with this, please  keep in mind "Don't Shop, Adopt"

72 hour kill proposal has already been dropped.

I won't express my opinion on this, since now it's a moot point. :)

Notice all these dogs mentioned are what I label as High Energy Breeds that I can guarentee are Owner Returns and not pups.  THESE BREEDS ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE, and PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF NEUTERING & SPAYING your Pets. Alot of Shelters are struggling financially, can't afford Euthanasia and Dogs are still being Gassed in some Shelters across the  states.  WHY? simply because of backyard breeding, Neglectful Ownership, and not choosing a breed that  you can actually handle and fits your lifestyle.

60,000.00 people signed this petition, Now how many are willing to learn how toPROPERLY handle these breeds, foster, adopt or do a food drive for this shelter like many people  I know do?

grrrr...
