I'm looking for officers willing to read a draft (in PDF format) and provide feedback on a book about police mental health issues. If interested please contact me at policementalhealth@gmail.com

Thanks.

You also might want to check with the psychologist who does psych exams for your local agency(s).

The book has already been written.

Good point Sarge.  If this is a resource book should it be directed to the Psych community for comment.  If it's a resource book for a street cop where did the information come from and who is this author.

Good Luck Jeff!

My department has recently made this a front line issue and has sent many of us to Mental Health Officer classes and is currently working out a program to assist officers experiancing mental health crisis. Mental Health issues are something we deal with on various calls for service during the day to day. Sadly it seems that when its one of our own we dont get involved until its to late (IMO).

Are you talking about police officers being called on to deal with mental health issues or Officers who are dealing with their own mental health issues?

Most of us deal with it the same way nurses and doctors who work in the ER's deal with it, through black humor and building a wall against it. Maybe that is why we get along with the ER people, we are all a bit 'weird' I guess.

 Robocop -

Yes, it's for cops to deal with our own mental health. Stress-related disease, alcohol, suicide, PTSD...that fun stuff ;)

Apparently, we're not doing a great job in this area. According to John Violanti - a retired NY State Trooper and now researcher - we live about 9 years less than the general population. But that's just the end result. The QUALITY of our lives seems to suffer as a result of a police career.

So, the book is intended to help us cops live better.
