So I wanted to gather the opinions of the Vets and everyone else on this article that I seen on Yahoo. Tell me what you think..

"The flag was thrown because Decker went to a knee, a celebration which has been illegal in the NFL since 2009."

According to the article he was fined for taking a knee, and NOT for the salute to the troops.  That type of TD celebration has been illegal since 2009 and he should have been aware of that rule. I am concerned that he has chosed to try and deflect blame from himself by using the "Salute" excuse.  He could just as easily saluted the troops while standing at attention in the end zone and he would not have been fined.

I assert a different view.

Why is it not a Penalty to give your side piece the ball on the sidelines, and yet it's a serious infraction to salute the Troops??

Our Vets have fought for our freedom, Many died for it.  Why does the NFL have to be so scripted, and deny someone of his/her individuality and right to Free Speech?

Think with the new year approaching, the NFL should Critique some of these outdated guidelines, and leave the Crack Pipe alone while doing it.

If anyone deserves a fine, It should be the J-E-T-S(Just End The Season) for Loosing by 21 POINTS!!!!

Disclaimer, I do actually like the Jets, just pun.

LonnaNJ,

I REPEAT that he was fined for taking a knee in the end zone (a rule infraction since 2009) and NOT FOR SALUTING THE TROOPS!  Had he walked out of the end zone (like the player who ran over to his cheerleader girlfriend on the sidelines) then he could have cartwheeled down the sidelines while saluting and shooting bottlerockets out of his butt and not been fined.  The fine was for the rule infraction, NOT FOR THE SALUTE TO THE TROOPS.  The NFL is not insulting our brave men and women in uniform, they are enforcing their rules (remember back in the day when we had the victory dances, flips, cartwheels and other circus acts in the end zone to celebrate a touchdown?).  As far as "Free Speech" goes, this situation does not rise to the level of being a Constitutional issue, it is a Rules & Regulations issue, nothing more, nothing less.  To try making it into an Anti-Troops / Anti-Patriotism issue is ludicrous.

Gotcha, the fine was for a knee in the endzone. So one guy can shoot bottle rockets and hand over the ball a few yards away, but another is going to get fined if he proposes marriage in the end zone. I understand how the NFL differentiates one gesture from the other. But....Doesn't Everything the NFL has been doing (as well as the NHL) as far as rules just seem a bit too structured and dictated? What rule will they come up next, no females can participate in the NFL unless there bopping each other in the head with pom poms, and have cutesy toostie skirts on? .....Oh, wait a minute-that does stick with the NFL...my bad. Guess according to the rules associated with the NFL-Females not worthy and restricted for Display?

I understand the NFL's ruling on this, but I would have to say No-I don't agree with it. NFZL needs to take a chill Pill. imho

Rule is a rule, can't make exceptions just because he was saluting the troops.

There needs to be another option on the poll.  I vote for who really gives a rat's rear.  This country needs to worry less about sports and more about god family and country.
