Let's not forget those less fortunate and please give something to your local community food pantries. You may have to seek them out and ask them what they need for this year.

BUMP!!!!!

Never hurts to volunteer at a soup kitchen either.

Why I say this:  I say this as a past volunteer for a soup kitchen.  I would see people  with children strolling all their belongings on strollers.   There were people that we couldn't give a second plate too, b/c there may not have been enough for the rest.  You will see very young addicts skinny as a rail  desperately trying to actually eat, and homeless people with dogs in tow.

It's sounds Gloomy, but the feeling of Volunteering and helping people out leaves you with a sense of Elation and Bliss.

Wishing all a happy and stuffed thanksgiving.  I give thanks to all that will be working or on call over the holidays for their sacrifice and presents to duty.  Be safe out there...

Thank you for this thread.  The soup kitchens are seeing lots of numbers.  The bread lines are long.

Please check out the situation on your elderly neighbors.  A lot are barely making it and they really need help.

I agree about the elderly and the children who both have soft place in my heart. Count your blessings and give. Why should it be only at Thanksgiving and Christmas, just a thought.

I agree with this too...I always try to participate in charities.... a few that I do

of course Haven Hospice

Patriotic Pillow Project---- make homemade pillows and throws for wounded soldiers

operation Christmas child- you fill a shoe box with gift items for children to send overseas for christmas

March Of Dimes, Ronald Mcdonald house

Out of the darkness walk a thon-  Suicide awareness walk in memory of my friend and coworker

when i had free time and was'nt working 60 hours a week I made jewelry and had my own facebook page, 1$ of each of my sales went to the Quigley house ( abuse shelter for women & children)....

I LOVE CHARITIES!!

I encourage you to read the book 29 gifts.... it really makes you think outside of the box.... for 29 days you just give to people random things .. you might buy their lunch, pay for their gas, give them a book etc....... it's a challenge worth repeating

So I was racking my Brain trying to think what I could for Thanksgiving as a charity... being as busy as what I am. I think I'm going to try to buy those premade thanksgiving meals and when I go see my Hospice patients on the Wed before Thanksgiving deliver them as I see my patients... lets face it if you have a loved one dying at home you don't have very much holiday cheer... we usually see six patients max so the expense would'nt be that costly... hopefully they have some sort of premade dinner out the Wed before it seems like I have seen them in the past... that's my plans anyways...they usually have something like this at publix :)
