I have a friend who is trying to get his first officer job, he is on a anti-depressant and has been for sometime. Does he have a chance at all? I tried looking on the web and am seeing sorry  but is every state like that? Or does that fall under the ADA? I know plenty of officers that are stable on pills.  Any help here?

Have him axe the agency he is interested in. Could this friend be you? Remember the old saying " Support mental health or I'll kill you ".

Ah hell, I work with a bunch of people who SHOULD be on Anti-Depressants.

If it's a mild case, Provigil could help and provide a superior alertness level as a side benefit without disrupting normal sleep patterns.  It's a smart drug and more that can be used daily/long term.

Provigil is effective. It does drop off when it's 'done'. Most agencies will want the officer to advise their immediate supervisor if they are on medication prescribed by their doctor.

Fact of the matter is our job is stressful enough if not from the GP then from the Dept it's self not a good idea we don't need another off med cop with a gun either going after someone else or them self. Sorry I really don't believe it is a good Idea.
