I also want to add the bible was not written to be a historical textbook of events that happened in the past. It is a theological book. It doesnt need supplemental book and records to confirm what it says. Just like the biography of Frederick Douglas does not need supplemental data for it to be deemed as reliable. It is a story of what happened. The bible is a love story.

I am being charged with "stereotyping" you as a christian? What makes christianity more true and right in comparison to Muslim or Hindu faiths or any other present day religious faith or those of antiquity? Is it not egotistical to believe, without one shred of evidence, that you are god's chosen favorites? That you know the will of this creator due to your reading of a non-historical religious book. That all who do not share your fantasies of death and afterlife are doomed to eternal hellfire. Regardless of where they were born or what culture or religion they were indoctrinated? That a person could be born, taught a completely different faith, lived righteously and be doomed to hellfire because he did not read and believe the right book. I submit that it demonstrates the very essence of violent egotistical narrow mindedness.

The Bible is not a love story, it is a horror story. It's violent imagery and story of this angry, capricious and vengeful deity has spawned more pain and suffering than can possibly be accurately measured. Believe what you will, but I have read the books, several times. I was just thinking about your suggestion of the book by Aristotle, I can say I've never heard of it but I will give it a look.

I agree with Dayngerous that most of the  TRANSLATIONS of the Bible we have are a HORROR STORY, not a love story.  This started with St Augustine when he espoused the doctrine of ETERNAL HELL, instead of a hell that was remedial, and had an end.  Most translations of the Greek words Aion, and Aionios (age, ages) are translated "eternal", "eternity", or "everlasting".  The correct translation is Age, or Ages.  An age has a beginning and an end.  There-for "hell" is for an "age", is "remedial", and is "the last outpost of love" as some have said.  A good book to read on this is:  HOPE BEYOND HELL!  which can be down-loaded free on the website of the same name.

It's 10/21/2011, the posponed ate of the end of the world (if you remember it originally was to end in March of this year).  While the day is not over yet, it looks like the end of the world is getting posponed again, that's a good thing as I just renewed my suscription.
