Why is it that I can't post a link?

Every time I do, I get an error message: "Problem creating topic.

This post contains prohibited HTML markup. Please remove and try again."

What gives?

It went bad while you were on your hiatus. One way to do it, is to post the url, leaving a space between the name and the dot:

www .policelink .com

Folks can copy it, put it in the address bar and remove the spaces

It's a shame that the site's having these issues, but I'm sure Sarge will get it straightened out in time. I suppose that's what I'll have to do for the time being. Thanks, Tim.

Yeah. While you were gone Monster reformatted PL into the commode.  You'll notice you can no longer post videos in Forums.  Worse, any internet-sourced text excerpt you copy and try to paste will be blocked by the same HTML code prohibition.
