Today I want to talk about construction workers. Mainly road workers, the group of people most people dislike. We understand that you have somewhere to be and that you have a schedule to keep. But we have  job to do and we don't usually have a say in how its done.

The reason I'm bringing this up today is on Saturday I was struck by a vehicle while painting a two lane road. We were painting centerline when a vehicle about six cars back got out of line to pass I got out of my truck to inform the driver that the paint was wet. He struck me I went over the hood and off the letf side. Then took off, when the truck in front of me attempted to stop him he went to the right through someone's yard and kept going. We were unable to get a plate. So now I'm off work and i have to were a knee brace and use a crutch to help me walk. I will see a orthopedic surgon on thursday to make sure there is no permenant damage.

I told you all of that for this reason when you know there is going to be road work in your area or you happen to drive past people that are working please don't be so quick to find a way around. Keep an eye out for people not paying attention or maybe drive by every once in a while to check on them. You dont need to stop and talk or anything but just keep an eye on them. Police presence does make our job easier. Just remember the life you might save is mine.

I will get off my soap box now. Everybody have a safe and good week.

BUMP!!!!

Schick, I hope all works out for you!!! Hopefully, the PD caught up with the non-driving "I'm in a hurry so leave me alone" idiot that put you in your current state, and I sincerely hope the Justice is swift and harsh with this idiot.

As a side note, with all of the construction going on in our fair city, I do periodically check on the road crews. And I heavily enforce any infractions I see in the work zones!!!

I hope you dont need surgery and mend quickly. There is no reason to be in that much of a hurry. I do hope that your local LE agency catches the POS that hit you.

BUMP!!!!!

I hope that they end up finding the person who did it one way or another. I hate to see when people are unsafe around construction areas. I have wished many times that I had a set of Jacks in my car. And I don't mean car jacks. I mean those little metal, flatten their tire, jacks that come with the bouncey balls   I think the majority of my Road Rage comes from people like the one that hit you. Seeing something like that coming. I don't know how many times I've put my car between drivers like that and the people they could have killed. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Keep us posted!

Bump to all - hopefully your recovery goes well and you're able to make a full one.

On a separate note, do I sense some pent-up hostility, Dara?

People are crazy for zooming through construction areas... it is so dangerous to do that for everybody... especially the construction workers.  I am sorry this has happened to you.  Thank God you are relatively "OK".  I hope you heal quickly, without any complications.

Thanks everybody, I'm feeling pretty good so far. I get a little sore if I stay in one spot to long.

Unfortunately we were on a country road out side of Louisville KY when it happend. So with no plate number all I could give the metro cops was a vehicle description. I doubt they will find the person responsible for this in a city that size.

Hey Schick !!!!How are you feeling? It's been a week now. We have TONS of construction around this town and I am always scared of the other drivers. People have no common sense when it comes to their responsibility for their own safety. One thing that is good, traffic fines double in construction zones when workers are present !

Thanks for asking!

Well I'm up and getting around. When I seen the orthipedic surgon last week he said I have a contusion and fluid in my left knee. He put me on light duty and sent me back to work. I have to see him for a follow up on thursday to see if its getting better. I think its getting better, I haven't used my crutches in a few days but I noticed last night that the swelling has gottten worse since I've stopped using them.

NOW LISTEN HERE ! You have to follow what the Doc says . If he says stay on the crutches you do that, that knee is swelling because you are putting weight on it. Give yourself the proper amount of time to heal or else you could wind up making your problem worse !
