I was notified earlier today that I've been selected to speak on the behalf of my class at our graduation next week. Kinda hit me like a ton of bricks, I don't mind speaking in front of people but I'm a little worried about speaking for 11 other people I guess. Has anyone had to be the "speaker" at their graduation? Any ideas what I can ramble on about for 3-5 minutes in front of a room of high ranking city/county officials, friends and family? I guess the obvious of how our encounter was with the academy but just wondering what else I could throw in there.....hmmm

Just an idea, if there are 12 of you a 15 or 20 second mention of each one and then a minute or so of thanks to the various instrctors, ect.  But did not have to do it for my academies.

Keep it Simple. . .Simon  (KISS).  For all of those that made this possible. . . .Thank You.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

I have some public speaking under my belt. Start off with a short funny story or joke. It breaks the tension. I've never lied to you yet. Follow my lead.

The last time I spoke at the Acedemy Graduation, I talked about the history of the police shield and how it was derived over the years to what it is today and what it stands for.  It was a big hit with the class and their families. It was very fitting, because they had just received their shields at the graduation minutes before. As I told of the history the cadets looked at their badges, and you could see the pride in their faces.  I posted that speech on this site in the education section of PL titled the "History of the police badge/shield."  Feel free to use if if you want.

Thankyou for the quick responses! I've believe I can incorporate alot of the information you guys have provided along with some of my own stuff. I obviously want to be professional but I don't want to be a robot if that makes any sense....so I'm working on some ice breakers to ease the crowd a little bit. @JIMROC thankyou for the article I'm reading it now. @ Uncledennis I know you've got some jokes in you, release them lol !!

Don't forget to picture the audience naked while you're speaking to keep your nerves in check. (Had to throw that in there. )
