Posted almost 2 years ago To all you Army old timers and military supporters-- My son went off to Ft Leonardwood for basic training yesterday afternoon. His follow on AIT will be EOD training at Ft Lee, sometime in October. After a 32 year military career, myself, we are very proud of him and his new endeavour. I'll let you know how he's progressing as I hear. Carl A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. | Posted almost 2 years ago Thanks. He arrived at St Louis about 10 last night and had to do his first hurry up and wait. The bus to Leonard wood had left about an hour before. They had to wait for the next bus, about 3 hours or so. His first military lesson. And so the saga begins. | Posted almost 2 years ago Even though I am partial to the Navy, I have to extend my congrats to him and you. It takes a special kind of person to join the military. As I was told by one of my professors this last term, "Military personnel don't do it because they hate what is in front of them, they do it because they love what is behind them." |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Congratulations and please thank him for me. My son (not to steal your thunder) could not get his crap together and joined the army and is 5 years from retirement. As you know you will see a man develop. Also while I'm at it thanks for your service. I took my basic at Leonardwood. There isn't much to do there off post. Waynesville, is next to the post. Please keep us apprised. Best to him and God bless all our military personnel. |

| Posted almost 2 years ago Hey Carl, Congrats on raising a soldier! I'm surprsied you didn't have him aiming high. My step son is off to Ft. Benning in November and is real ancy about getting there and getting done with it so he can go Airborne and deploy. Its something he's wanted to do since he was eight, so I'm excited to see his excitement. I feel the joy you are feeling right now. I had him talk to all of the services recruiters to get informed and make a decision that was right for him. He almost went Marine Corp, but something scratched his itch with the Army. He's gonna be Infantry and has been training with a pool at the recruiting office. They do prebasic education and prep work and do PT three days a week to get him conditioned. I told him I would be there for his Graduation from AIT and Airborne if he gets the slot. I enjoyed Benning, so looking forward to going back! I did all of my training at Leonard Wood, Benning and McClellan. The post sits in the Ozarks and is a pretty place. If you go to graduation be sure and drop me a line. Be safe and I thank him for his service and you for letting him serve... |

Yup, been there, done that. Harmony Church for AIT, then went back and was stationed at Kelly Hill. Harmony Church has been leveled (made me cry) and Kelly Hill has been "modernized" with new barracks. It's a totally different Army that when I first went in, back when Moses was still a Corporal. | Posted almost 2 years ago Thanks for all the kind comments. Certainly, I'll post anything that comes up. What I left off was that he was married on June 4th, and his wife had my granddaughter, Rebekah Marie on June 30th. So, he left town when she was 4 weeks old. I'm sure he'll miss her terribly. We heard from him at about 10 last night. He had finally made it to the St Louis Airport ant was at the USO waiting for transportation to the base. Haven't heard since. More to follow.... | Posted over 1 year ago Sorry I didn't make an update. Michael graduated from basic training and is currently at Ft Lee VA, in pre EOD training. He's due to graduate from there by the end of this month and will be going on to Eglin AFB, FL for the 40 week EOD training program. He was home for the Christmas holidays and is looking forward to coming back to Florida for his follow on training. | Posted over 1 year ago Thanks Guys. I'll be happy to pass the kind words on to him. He calls a couple of times a week, now that he's near the end. I'll talk to him tonight probably and let him know. Have a great weekend. Carl A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
