Are department is getting us new uniforms.  Right now we are wearing gray pants and a lighter tan shirt.  They are trying to find a new color. Since we are volunteers they don't want us to wear blue like our officers.  We don't carry weapons we only carry radios.  What color do you think is none threating to keep us save?  Are town where we walk is small and we have alot of people who watch are every move.  For example: They get concern when we tag bikes lock to city property even though bike racks are provided. Example 2:  they get concern when we tag dogs that are tied up on city property.

Trainees and non-sworn personnel that "tag" bicycles and dogs for being on. . . or tied to city property.  Just what exactly is your title then?  What is it the type of work your department has you doing?  Enforcement action?  Of what sort?  In the end, in this day and age, ANYTHING associated with a police department can bring the ire of people. . . .and sometimes their wrath.  So, it doesn't really matter what color your uniform is. . . .if you work with/for your local police police department, your safety already has a potential mark against it.

As for colors. . . .in my department (when we had explorers) the uniform pants (and yes, ties) were shared with Motor Carrier and Explorers.  The shirts though were very much lighter blue in color than our dark blue shirts.  Their shirts were almost a sky blue (sorry, but I'm not really good with names of shades of colors), noticeably different shoulder patches and no badge.  It was very evident when the Explorers came out on the road that they were not officers.  But, because they wore a uniform similar to ours, one could make the mistake that they were with a different department.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

At the university I attended until just recently I had a student "Cadet" position with the University PD. We had a similar discussion about changing uniforms shortly before I left. While I was there we went from just street clothes and a reflective vest, to black uniforms(the Officers wear blue) with a patch that was not similar in size or shape to the Officer's, to black uniforms with a patch that was similar to the Officer's. To this last set up they ended up having us wear the reflective vests at all times(even indoors). We never carried weapons and never had badges. And we had no enforcement capability. Even so, the only time we didn't have members of the public refer to us as "Officer" was when we wore just street clothes and the vest.

Bottom line: if you wear a uniform that makes you look like law enforcment then you're going to be at risk.

One of our officers had alot to do with us putting tags on bikes and dogs.  The situation was getting out of control during the summer time with so many people either walking their dogs in town and tethering them to the poles which brought on a safety issuse with the leash beening left to long and the dogs taking up half of the sidewalks. With the bikes people would tie up their bikes not tight enough and the bikes would fall and also take up half of the sidewalks which also caused safety issue. That is all the things besides ripping down posters they have us do.

Tell them you would like to take a course in writing and proper grammer. This would better enhance your abilities to get those who lock their bikes to city property or those who do not properly leash their dogs. Then maybe you could write speeding tickets someday. It almost sounds as if you are a imposter on this site.

Frankly, Royal Lilac looks the least threatening with Caribbean Sea running a close second.  I wouldn't recommend Shitake Brown unless they change the name.  Besides, it looks too UPS.  Withered Rose is out- unless it's meant for security detail in an Old Folks Home where you may blend in too much with the decor.  Avoid Avocado.

Shady Glade is rather froggy for law enforcement work.  Twilight Blue is out as well as Aurora Red at least this time of year since it blends with Santa Claus' costume.  Burnt Orange looks too much like you might be a Hazardous Waste Inspector. Although Burnt Orange will hide mustard, it will show coffee stains.  Ochre will look too much like you've accessorized your pajamas with a gun belt and badge.

Goodness, you are in a pickle!  Why not wait until you see what hits the catwalk next season?

freezep i am not an imposter.  I do volunteer for the Ashland Police department in Ashland, Oregon.  We tag bikes and dogs that are tied to poles.  The reason we tag dogs is for the safety of elderly citizens and vistors to our city. Imagine walking down the street and you are site seeing and you trip over a dog leash.  What a vacation uh.

to woody no I do not do that much report writing now.  When I clean graffiti I just email the photo to the CFO so he can keep track (record) of what and how much we are getting.

marlyb I like those colors too unfortunately they are not going to change our shirt colors, but they are going to change our pants to black.  We have to wait until next July, because the budget was eaten up by the murder that we had out here last month.

we are getting new uniform shirts also.  They are blue.  Like the blue iris, so we will be blue shirts and black pants.  They should be here in about 3 weeks.

For the last time I am not an imposter.  If you don't believe me CALL THE ASHLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT IN ASHLAND, OREGON 541-488-2211  ask if a Heather Spencer volunteers there.  My unit number is 5-v-26.

Umm...the only post referring to you as a potential "impostor" was made almost 2 months ago. The remainder of the posts have all been PL's version of humor, some of it directed at you, and some at each other. I'm sure nobody meant any offense, we're just used to being able to joke with people who have a little thicker skin. Relax a little and try not to take yourself (or our humor) quite so seriously.

BTW....posting agency info, contact numbers, badge/ID/radio sign, name, etc. on a PUBLIC forum may not be the best idea for PERSEC reasons. Just a thought....

Heather, Please remove this post. You should NEVER post this type of information on the Internet in a public area. Nobody is saying you are an impostor. They were picking at you because your spelling is really bad and your sentence structure isn't much better. If you wish to become more or improve yourself then you do need to study much harder in school when it comes to language and communications. That IS NOT a slam against you either young lady, it is an observable fact and some great advice that I hope you will heed. Good luck.
