I know the situation will affect your decision, but this is just an on-the-spot question. Before you discount shotguns, I think slugs would work great!

Not criticizing your decision, but there's the splash factor to consider, and if the ZA is infection-based, that spells trouble.

Then, maybe, you get a big zombie dog.

I can't even imagine how satisfying it would be to pop a zombie with a slug!

I'm sweet on the gauge.  They take out a lot of meat.

Aim at the high mark and you will hit it. No, not the first time, not the second time and maybe not the third. But keep on aiming and keep on shooting for only practice will make you perfect. Finally you'll hit the bull's-eye of success.

Claymores are perfectly acceptable; however, I was just making my first foray into using a poll.

For those of you that know anything about Zombie Killing, a shotgun is much easier to use. However, with a shotgun you need to shoot it twice to kill it as compared to the rifle which only requires one shot. A rifle is a bit harder to use, but one shot/one kill is pretty darn good.

I'll stick with the shotgun though because when that zombie hears the rack of the shotgun, they know they are about to die!

I'm all in with the shotgun, but I'll carry my .45/.410 Judge for a backup. (Love this gun)

I'm voted rifle. Sorry but I rather pick them off from several hunderd yards away.

just the sound of a shotgun being racked has ended many a stand-off...less lethal or not...so i would go with the shotty

Technically you can't kill a zombie because it's already dead and reaminated, I thing a shotgun wuld be better to disable/stop a zombie, the disadvantage is the shotgun is a closer range weapon, with the rc86 approach, you never let the zombies near you.

Very good points indeed, but you had better be very comfortable in your shooting ability. You sure don't want to be wasting ammo during the zombie apocalypse. A shotgun is much easier to handle!

Hmmm....an Axe would work, but I think I'd go with a couple SOG tactical tomahawks.
