Posted about 2 years ago Excellent article, courtesy of Cat_D!!! This article just made my day!!! I do, however, disagree with LSU Student Government President Cody Wells in his comment that Haas had the right to burn the Flag. NO HE DOES NOT!!!!! Open burning of the Flag as a form of protest is an act of desecration! This is against Federal Law and most State Laws!! If he wants to burn a retired Flag, it needs to be done in private in a respectful Ceremony. I believe I will be email the Chancellor. www.foxnews.com/us/2011/05/11/lsu-student-surrounded-thousands-protesters-attempting-burn-american-flag

| Posted about 2 years ago Yes, it has made a great story here lately on Fox News and all. Nice when people take back their country a little at a time from those that feel compelled to publicly force others to tolerate their freedom of speech. Yes, unfortunately the Supreme Court has held that burning the flag is permissable under the Freedom of Speech. |

| Posted about 2 years ago Just an FYI: I sent LSU Chancellor Michael Martin an email, and attached Louisiana Revised Statute 14:116.1, which prohibits the burning of the US Flag for the state of Louisiana. In the article, Student Government President Cody Wells was quoted as saying "Haas had the right to burn the Flag". Well, NO HE DOES NOT!!!!! I asked Chancellor Martin to do me the Honor of addressing this with both Haas and Wells, show them both the Louisiana Statute as well as US Code Title 4, Chapter 1 (Flag Code - Desecration and mutilation of the US Flag), so they are aware of the laws they are violating! Then when they do violate it, well.... us Veterans and our supporters can go down and convince them to mend their ways!! |

| Posted about 2 years ago Well, I'm a veteran, so I want the freedom to express myself by stomping a mudhole in his ass and walking it dry. This punk kid just wanted his 15 minutes of fame, and he got it. But at what cost? He wasn't doing it for any Cause or belief. He was doing it to get a Rise out of someone, and he did. He got exactly what he wanted. Bring that Kind of crap to my hometown, and they'll be identifying you by dental records the next day. |

| Posted about 2 years ago This kid is an idiot who needs to be smacked around a little bit. Like 36TR said he doesnt have a right to burn the flag like people claim, he does have the right to protest though BUT I wish people would think about what they are protesting and really shouldn't protest the people who gave them that right to begin with! |

| Posted about 2 years ago Personally, I think we need to consider having a "discussion" with the student (I won't tell you that his name was Isaac Eslava) that removed the 10'x15' Flag from the Historical Memorial and burning it!!! Keep in mind, the Memorial honored the War Dead!!!!! Wow!! My Blood is starting to boil. Incidentally, I have fired off a few emails to some folks about this whole thing: Including the LSU Chancellor and the Mayor's Public Affairs Office. Did anyone else see that he didn't burn the Flag because he did not obtain a "Burn permit for the Flag" from the City???? |

| Posted about 2 years ago Great story. I know it's hard to believe, but some of us college kids have respect for our country, the flag, and the men and women who serve it. The canned response will be great for lowering 36TR's boiling blood, not. "Law enforcement officers are never 'off duty.' They are dedicated public servants who are sworn to protect public safety at any time and place that the peace is threatened. They need all the help that they can get."
"My heroes are those who risk their lives every day to protect our world and make it a better place - police, firefighters and members of our armed forces."

Yeah, the infamous "canned response". That may be followed up with a phone call (talk about a blood boiling point - that might get ugly). Either that or I'll have one of my PL friends near Baton Rouge do a face to face with someone in the Mayor's Office. |

I have my vote for the LA person taking over those duties lol. Trust me, I enjoyed being "that guy" on the phone today with someone at my university. "Law enforcement officers are never 'off duty.' | Posted about 2 years ago I would have to say that the LSU CHancellor is correct in his statement that the idiot has the right to burn the flag. I do not agree with it and think everyone should be able to utilize my frredom of expression by breaking my foot off in the kids arse. But according to the US Supreme Court cases Texas-vs-Johnson 491 U.S. 397 (1989) and United States-vs-Eichman 496 U.S. 310 (1990), laws in 48 of the 50 states banning flag desecrating are unconstitutional. It sucks but it is true. I am not far from the LSU campus, just tell me when and where. Loyalty above all else, except Integrity.

BUMP.. I am with you guys. I have a brother that is serving in the U.S. Military. I am a PATRIOT. I think that burning the flag in protest should be a carnal sin. Some of these punks have no idea what the flag stands for. Heck, I bet they don't even know how many people have died for this country. "Ladies and Gentlemen, take my advice. Personally, I think the US Supreme Court is wrong. According to the US Flag Code, section 8j, the Flag is considered a living thing. Is the US Supreme Court saying it's ok to burn a living thing??? I would love the opportunity to challenge that one!! |

You DO realize that you can sue the Supreme Court right? And you actually have a fairly good chance of winning if you have a decent Attorney. |

No, Gun, he didn't he didn't get a burn permit. I don't think he would have been stupid enough to try it after all the protesters showed up. Oh, he's not from here,he just goes to grad school here. He's from Missouri I think I saw. The one who burned the flag had duel citizenship with US and Columbia I think they said. PL's Dedicated Vetting Agent |
