A sister agency is in the process of acquiring a CQB or PSD weapon system (rifle\carbine) for witness protection operations. The system our department uses is the LAR-15 (albeit mainly for SRT CQB operations) ,I love it and use it for SRT Operations (when not used in my primary role as a sniper) and when called upon to assist in witness protection, but I would not want to base my input on the only CQB \ PSD system I have available.  What weapon systems does the PoliceLink community recommend?  Any suggestions\recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Or, if they want to spend alot more money.....

LWRC PSD, piston driven SBR that is great for that kind of work.

Its there money and I am just giving them suggestions.  We are supposed to look at some systems tomorrow and its not really my specialty as far as whats out there. I am familiar with the Colt (AR) styles from the military and law enforcement again I would like to know what is all out available and in use by other departments.  Thank you for the quick response.

After much debate they came up with the Robinson XCR because of the( 7.62x39 round, lenght of weapon, piston driven, and famialarity) The main argument was against the .223 penetrating windshields (lack there of).  I still prefer the LAR-15, but i see that the piston driven weapon systems are gaining popularity.
