DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A man has been charged in the shooting of a DeKalb County sheriff’s deputy.

The shooting happened Nov. 28 at the suspect’s Atlanta home, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adrion Bell said Cpl. Gary Freeman was at the home to serve a simple battery warrant for 36-year-old Joshua Waller.

When Freeman tried to arrest Waller, Waller shot him, Bell said. He said Waller was then shot by an accompanying deputy, Sonja McKinney.

Waller was taken into custody after receiving medical attention, Bell said. In December, Waller was released from the DeKalb County Jail after posting a $500,000 bond.

Waller was indicted by a DeKalb County grand jury in March. He was charged with numerous offenses including attempted murder, aggravated assault and terroristic acts.
