I am humbly asking my friends here on PL to keep my wife (a fellow PL member) and her family in your thoughts and prayers. A few months ago my mother-in-law found out that she had contracted MRSA, an infection that can viciously attack the body. She had a series of operations and hospital stays but was readmitted yesterday to the hospital. Another surgery has been scheduled for tomorrow and the surgeons hope to go in and remove any signs of the infection, including removing and perhaps replacing any internal organs infected with artificial or metal for bones. The hospital basically hinted that it was an effort to keep her mother alive and if not done, she would likely soon die due to the infection.

So presently, after much scrambling, Andrea is preparing to go down to Kansas and be with her mother in the event that her mother does not have much time. I ask for prayers for safe travels, as well as a positive outcome for her mother's surgery. The group of friends that I have here on PL have become like a family to me and I wanted to keep you posted as members of my "family." God bless.

I shall pray.

Update: Andrea made it to Kansas about 0145 and went to see her mother at the hospital prior to surgery. Her mother came out of surgery early this afternoon and the doctors/surgeons informed Andrea that they had taken out a lot of the infection, had "stripped" her bones of the infection and had placed a "wound vac" to try and keep the infection from re-emerging and under control. Andrea is planning on staying up at the hospital this evening and tells me that it is different seeing her mother this way, mainly due to her complexion being a yellow and green shade. So, hoping and praying that her mom has the strength remaining to begin the road to recovery. Thank you for all of your kind words and prayers.

My thoughts and  prayers are with you all. I know how hard this has to be on Andrea, seeing her mother like this, and you not being there. Hope your Mother-in Law will recover quickly. God Bless.

Oh wow, I had MRSA in high school and it never got this bad. Maybe because I was younger and got it very early.

I hope she is ok and she experiences a full recovery. Keep your head up

I am glad she is at least out of surgery!  Thank you for the update.  I know right now this is a terrible waiting game.  Let Andrea know that we are all pulling for her mother.

Two and 1/2 years ago I came very near to losing my life to a MRSA infection that had invaded my body via an ingrown hair on my upper thigh. Within 4 hours the large-marble "bump" had grown to the size of a grapefruit. Needless to say, I was rushed to the ER had emergency surgery at which time the surgeon prayed with me daily that he'd successfully removed the entire "pocket."  If you are not familiar with Community-Acquired MRSA, it often first appears as a spider bite and within as few as 6 hours you can be dead. And the infection is a tricky one - it generally forms large pockets or sacks - which seem easy enough to remove BUT IT HAS A NASTY HABIT OF formining minute "tunnels" of infection that leave the sack and spread inch by inch QUICKLY.  Mine had 2 tunnels, but since my surgery was done all the while I was under a CT scan, the surgeon "caught" the tunnels and removed them, too.  The mass removed from my thigh was approximately 4 sq. inches.  HOWEVER, somehow, a little cell of MRSA entered my blood stream and simply would not give up. I was given 5x the adult doseage of Vancomycin and the last rites (although I'm not Catholic - I appreciated the presence of the kind priest.) Then I was placed in restricted isolation where NO ONE except 2 health care workers/shift could enter dressed in NASA-Supplied space suits,  After 4 days (I was in a coma) the blood tests (which they took every 30 minutes) showed that the meds were FINALLY FIGHTING BACK.  I had turned the corner and my surgeon cried.

Bottom line:  You can survive MRSA. I will pray with everything in me that your beloved relative survives, like I did

Second Bottom line:  EVERYONE IN THIS NATION MUST WASH THEIR HANDS TWICE AS FREQUENTLY AS THEY USED TO!!  That's the best way to kill off the MRSA germ.  My medical team told me that Dial Foaming Soap was the ONLY one they recommended and also informed me that once you have MRSA, you have a very good chance of a recurrence.  Therefore, except for my hair, I will shower using that soap for the rest of my life.  It also left a not-so-nice present  -  Severe Type II Diabetes.  [It's actually called MRSA-Induced Diabetes]. It's incredibly hard to control this strain - which explains last week's 2 trips to the ER with glucose levels topping 800 (when just hours before they were 100...)

We'll all keep her close to our hearts at this time.

First and foremost, thanks for the thoughts and prayers again. Also thank you BarbMarch58 for your insight and for sharing your experience with me. Sounds very similar to what my mother-in-law has been dealing with. Presently she is in recovery and according to my wife, is improving well. Hopefully this time achieves the same results as what BarbMarch58 experienced. My wife is planning on returning home tomorrow as long as her mom continues her improvement. Thank you all so much for allowing me to share about this trying time.

Sounds like we need to be thanking God for His blessings. You're welcome Cory. I wish I had found this site before 2008... I went thru a trying illness with my mother. I could have used the support then. But, water under the bridge. I will continue my prayers for Andrea's mom and both of you. God bless and take care.

I agree with you both, I consider this to be my extended family and God should be thanked as well. The thoughts, prayers and kindness from my friends on here helps immensely, so I know what you mean  FloEW. The best part is the fact that you have found PL and are now part of the family that we have on here.
