NEW YORK CITY IS CELEBRATING THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ST. PATRICKS DAY PARADE .

for hours, starting up 5th avenue at 11am, the marchers will walk up thru the tall canyons of new yorks tall buildings as thousands of watchers applaude their approval to bands, marchers, and ever present bag pipe bands..

jack and i used to park our cars on 86th street bet 2nd and 3rd across from barney googles, walk to 5th avenue when a hansen (horse drawn) carriage awaited us and took us down 5th avenue to the starting point at 44th street. It was our private tradition, sometimes bearded, sometines clean shaven, always in winter blouse, white gloves, all medals and brass shinny, and a green balmorale?(beret) which we had purchased from a firemans widow who would knit them all year and sell them on this day. We would march in the rear of the NYPD contingent, usually all the heavy medal winners from the shit houses marched together..

after the parade it was off to st pauls on the west side where the emerald society threw their bash after the parade and we were always treated to the nypd bagpipers seranadeing us whilst we indulged in a few brews....

in honor of JACK, i shall tell an irish?? joke. this i believe comes from an old ballad.....

There once (AND IT WOULDL HELP IF YOU READ THIS WITH AN IRISH ACCENT>)was an irish piper sitting in the pub, practicing playing the pipes, hoisting a few pints as well, after feeling a bit tired the young piper walks out of the pub to the grand meadow behind and to a tall tree where he decides to take a nap, the young piper lays down under the tall tree, resting his head upon the pipes and falls fastly asleep...along the meadow comes a young lass who spys the young piper asleep under the tree, and she says to herself, AHH LASS, NOW IT IS WE SHALL SEE WHAT A PIPER WEARS UNDER HIS KILT, so the young lass walks up to the piper, lifts up his kilt and says with a hushed voice, OH MY GOD HE'S NOT WEARING A BLESSED THING. so the young lass takes the blue ribbon from her hair and tyes a pretty bow around his you know what and walks quietly away. A while later the young piper awakes and steps around the other side of the tall tree to relieve himself, he lifts up his kilt, looks down and says...OH ME GOD LAD, I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU'VE BEEN, AND I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING, BUT AT LEAST WE WON FIRST PRIZE.

god bless all here today...

THOUGH MOST CITIES HELD THE ANNUAL ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADES YESTERDAY, today, being the official holiday, HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY TO ONE AND ALL.

For those who are going to a parade or working a parade detail, enjoy the warmth, festive atmosphere, and lads and lassies.

I myself, plan to visit a pub in the area, listen to Irish ballads, hoist a few cold beers while wearing my green balmorale (beret.) and fill myself with the blue plate special of the day. CORNED BEEF, BOILED POTATOES AND CABBAGE.

BEST HOPES AND WISHES TO ONE AND ALL.  M.

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!!

Aim at the high mark and you will hit it. No, not the first time, not the second time and maybe not the third. But keep on aiming and keep on shooting for only practice will make you perfect. Finally you'll hit the bull's-eye of success.

GREEN NYPD SWEETSHIRT CLEAN AND PRESSED-check

BARSTOOL RESERVED FOR LUNCH OF CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE WITH BOILED POTATOES AND LOTSA COLD BEER-check

Prayer ready to be said tonite before bed,  praying for all the lost members of the thin blue line whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice this year and all previous years. Also prayers for  the support and continued healing of those injured on the job and and their families.  A loud cheer to those who will have the opportunity to march in the parades throughout the country.  Stand tall my brothers and sisters, make sure you show a little swagger in the march. And finally to those assigned to all the parade routes, ensuring the safety of the marchers and watchers, GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
