Forget it, even an expungement will be found by the PD background investigator and if you fail to disclose the arrest and conviction in your initial application and interview that will be grounds for an immediate disqualification.  Looking for ways to erase your past and/or cover up your criminal history is definitely the wrong way to pursue to a police career.  You need to face facts and understand that you will not get hired by ANY Law Enforcement entity (Police, Sheriff, Corrections, Border Patrol, Immigration or any other part of the Law Enforcement Community).

You need to talk to an attorney about getting a charge expunged form your record.  Even expunged charges are silll locatable by LE backgound investigators, having it expunged does not mean you can pretend like it doesn't exist, still need to list on any LE application.

Jeff hire an attorney, let him help you work out the legal end of it, just be sure if you do apply for a law enforcement job, you do let them know about the arrest. Due to the fact that I know anything  about your case, I won't say there's no way you will ever get hired, there could be circumstances in your simple assault, that a waiver might be required and approved, you won't be the first police officer I've seen hired with a misdemeanor on his record.

Hire an attorney, and don't hold your breath hoping for a job anywhere in LE (probably Security too).

When I pursued my paralegal degree I researched the subject of expungement. In my state one can only expunge an arrest if found not guilty. If a guilty conviction one must receive a pardon from the governor. As the others stated it will come out in a background investigation when an applicant takes the polygraph. Consult with an attorney.

I have a verry simular situation as you do. well somewhat, I have read every reply to your post. In Michigan I have a simple asault charge on my record from 2005 wich is oviosly a class 2 misdemeanor since I have since got 2 permits to purchace pistols. My asault charge was a pla offer I was arested for 4th degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and Contributing to the delinquincy of a minor, because when I was 18 I dated a girl that was 14, and when I broke up with her she got upset and took alot of pills and overdosed and had to be taken to hospital to have her stomache pumped so this trigered the police to question her and my name came up and she lied a little in her statement when the police officer asked her if we had ever done anything sexual. she told the cop who questioned her I fondled her Breasts. that never happened, we might have cuddled Up on a couch but thats as far as I went with her, still her lies cost me alot of Money and other stress Not only did i half to pay a good lawyer 2000 dollars to defend me, wich is his discounted rate usualy 2500 but he knew my uncle wich happens to be the prosicuter of the township that this happened in so he couldent do much cuz of conflict of intrest laws and he would have been risking his job for the township wich is a verry small portion of his income he makes most of his money from his law office, but it is a big risk to his reputation ang his chances of becomeing a Judge someday. Its verry unfortionate thow cuz I know this is going to make it verry hard for me to get a Job when I get done with my program. I am Just now begining to persue my Asociates degree in Criminal Justice and I am about to be 25 years old in a month. I dont know If i will half to Sponsor myself thru academy or what. what I do know is since I now live in the State of Florida there is a verry high demand for law enforcement officers here. There are adds online for 20+ police departments that are needing officers. even the one im hopeing for, Tampa there website says we are always takeing applications until further notice and they posted that update to there site in 2007 and it still hasent changed.

I grabbed this from another thread the OP posted in. Jeff, your chances are zero, zilch. Please move on....

Look Jeff, you are NOT going to be hired by ANY police Department, [period. The "assault" charge is a conviction AND it was plea deal to keep a sexual assault off your record. THAT will always be on your record and you will never get a job in ANY type of LE, period. We do not allow sexual offenders into our ranks, period. Now, go away as the answer is now and always will be the same, no chance, no how, no way Jose!

Jeff, this is basically a double thread.  We already answered your question in the other thread and it was vaulted.  There are plenty of other jobs outside law enforcement for you to pursue.  You're wasting your time and money by going into criminal justice.

Obviously you DON'T know because you came onto a law enforcement website seeking advice.  Law enforcement is NOT for you.  I don't trust you for the world.  Make like a good citizen and find another field of work to get into.  I'm done here!

And btw even if you did apply, they will find out, whether it's expunged or not. Then you lie automaticly gone from hiring process, and no other department will ever take your application (similar questions like this have been on the site before, always the same answers)

Thank You!

Sad to say, instead of hiring an attorney, he should have instead been given the advice to hire an ENGLISH tutor to learn proper spelling & grammar!  UGGH!!
