Lodge 1 Annapolis Maryland was started back in the late 60s or early 70's.   In the 80's the lodge kind of fell apart and members dropped to very few.    About 5 years ago a group of retired APD Officers got the ball rolling again and membership is over 100.   We do not have a Lodge Building but hold our meeting at the local Elks club once a month.

I don't know why it is but it is always the same 5 to 8 people who show up for the meetings, 90 % of which are retired officers.  The younger officers only show up when they want something.   Is it just our lodge or do other Lodges around the Country have the same problem ?

Well it looks like nobody is interested in this FOP group either.  I guess that answers my question.

Hey wiseass, I understand where you are coming from. I was the secretary of my local lodge for 3 years. I was able to increase participation and membership while I was there, but it quickly fell back to the retired guys unless the newbies needed something. I think that the younger generations are forgetting that this is a family and we have to support each other cause no one else will. Most of the younger officers don't know everything that is being done for them by the FOP, member or not. Sorry it took so long for me to reply, it's been a busy month for me. lol

Atleast, your retired officers showup!  I'm a VP in my lodge and only one or two officers show for a once a month meeting!  It's sad and it appears it's union wide!

Well in Virginia  SOME Lodges have such sorry attendance, they are losing their charters.  I tried hard to get members from my agency to come out, as far back as the 1980's, and it's a losing battle.

Wow, It is strangely weird and appropriate that a WiseAss0282 message should Pop back up on Easter.

I miss John quite a bit and while not a "huggy, feely" guy..................... I am starting to tear up right now.

For me, It's a call from the Grave to "do what you can, when you can".....whether it be lodge attendance or just taking the time to do something nice for another.

That's my Easter message.

Take Care all !

I think about John. He provided a kind crusty affable level of discussion. When he came on board with PL he contacted me about his username. We talked about it and decided to run with it anyway. It, of course, became PL legend.

Rest easy, my friend. You are not forgotten.
